The fowl band-it strikes again!

I have hunted a lot of things around BC, and around the world in my 4 years as a hunter. One thing I must say is that there is NO EXCITEMENT and ACTION that compares to a good duck hunt! It's very easy to get started, and cheap to get your feet wet. You can fit a hunt in almost any day. 3 hours is about all it takes right here in the lower mainland, or where ever you are. If you haven't tried it, make it a priority for next year! You'll realize quickly just how cool it is.

After my good friend Open-Sights got his first piece of jewelry yesterday (seen here http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/showthread.php?77182-My-first-band-good-morning-in-the-valley), and we weren't really 100% who had shot it I was happy for him. But I was also a little bit upset for not at least looking at my birds legs as I threw them in the pile. I went out determined to shoot a banded bird today. Probably because I am new at this I thought it would actually be possible....

Well, 3rd bird in was one that fell as we both fired, and the bird plummeted from the sky. OS went to pick it up. "Its got a band." is what I hear. Of course I yell back "Beeee Esssss!" He comes over and says, "my gift to you!", and throws me the bird. Well wouldn't you know it. Horse shoes up our behinds I suppose, we got 2 leg bands in 2 days.

As the day progressed it went from incredible to even better! My best day water fowling so far! 3 hunters limited on a combo of Mallards, Pintails, Widgeon, and Teal. I had never shot a nice teal or a any Pintail before and I really wanted one of each for the wall.

It was so good that about 15 birds into our limit, we said okay, drakes only from here on in. Sure enough we put em down!

I called in the band and found out it was from Slater WA, about 60kms away from where I shot it. It was banded Aug 5th, 2011. Poor little girl was murdered and robbed of her jewelry at such a young age....

All I can say, is guys who have never tried this, make sure you get out there next year! 6 days left in this season, and I am already looking forward to next season!

Those are some stud Pinnies you got there. Very nice. taking all drakes can be a difficult but very rewarding hunt. Normally makes the mornings last much longer then shooting the first 8 to come in. Good on ya.

If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck hahaha

Nice shooting. I agree 100%, waterfawl hunting is alot of fun and normally involves alot of shooting. I havent been out since I moved from ontario. Last few years in ontario I pretty much just concentrated on waterfawl as I'd get my bear in aug and it was practically impossible to get a moose tag(except calf). Was lucky to live in a good fly zone and used to do pretty good for jewelery. More ppl should try it.

Neat location to come from, not the typical AK migration route but a rather local gal roaming.
