After 14 unsuccessful years of applying for an LEH (with an average of 4:1 odds) I finally got a draw. Took 4 days to fullfill it. Here is my first big bull. 53 inch spread on the antlers and at the butchers the quarters weighed in at a total of 631 pounds.

Region 3, in the southern part of the northern part of the west but a little to the east, it's called secret hunting spot number 42. Really it's upper North Thompson.

I got dibs already........back off Doug !

FWIW: Biggest Bull Moose I ever seen was just outside Salmon Arm during the Fly Hills fire.....he was standing in the middle of a Field looking quite stressed.
I'm guessing he got chased out of his Hole wherever that was.....
Absolutley Huge, 60" plus......so Yes there are a Few Big Bulls in Reg 3:)

Thanks Doug, I just noticed reading your post that it was in the wrong section. It's been moved to it's proper spot.

Nice moose girl!

We had been calling earlier above where he was but after a nap in the truck, decided to come back down the road and saw him off to the side of the road just heading into the bush. I think he may have been bedded down near the road. Just lucky to catch him there before he headed into the bush. He stopped to check us out first. Curiousity killed the moose!

Not having a digital camera, I will post more photos as soon as I get the film developed. That will be when I get into to town next. Oh, small towns are so technically challenged...

Nice large moose there Elellbee. Saw one of his prodigy on the side of the road north of Blue River today, on his side of course. Nice set of brake marks and they were not tandems. Hope the others involved survived the impact.

That is one SWEET southern bull. Congrats big time!!!! How was the hunting. I've been finding with these clear skies they've been rutting all night long and holding up during the day. Have heard of a few nice bulls being taken but your's is way more than just nice. That thing is indeed a Monster!!!!

Edit.
Just looking at the pic again and seeing that droptine I think I've seen that bull before. He sure was impressive in the velvet in 04. I estimated him to be in the mid-50's and that dropper was really quite long.

I think you're right about them running all night. Full moon at night too. Calling didn't seem to have much effect. Not like some years. There sure isn't a definitive rut going on.

ellellbee,
I was working up the Manteau side when I saw that bull. He crossed the road right in front of me. Sure wished I had of had the video camera in the truck that day.
I think you need to post up a bigger pic of that buck you are holding in your avatar. That thing looks like a TOAD!!!

But let's see some pics of those North Thompson bucks you've got lying around your garage, and Avatar!!

Here's the photo of that buck I got a few years ago. it was my first deer too. I guess I like to start off big so it's more of a challenge to beat my first one! The other deer racks in the background of my moose pic are my husband's. I'd include them too but it says I've used up my quota for attachments. 526

FABULOUS buck!

Looks like a record book buck, did you have it scored?

Doug

ellellbee
10-11-2006, 11:09 AM
Yes, I had a friend score it. I forget the score, does 140 or something make sense? Not symetrical enough and unfortunately we had to drag it out down a road with a BW bike (like an ATV but 2 wheel) so the side of the antler got worn away some. That took away from the score also. My husband's the following year scored a tad higher, had to outdo me!

Don't forget guys, I'm small. 5'1", 140 lbs. so they tend to look even more impressive in front of me than if my 6'2", 250 lb husband was sitting behind them. Not that they aren't big, hey I'm plenty proud, but they just aren't records. It is a personal record though that I will spend some time trying to beat.

Doug

I am no expert on scoring, but that sure looks bigger than 140..... a LOT bigger - but maybe who is a scoring expert can hazard a guess......

Doug

i would say a lot bigger then 140 too...probably around 175 but i have never scored a buck so i m not good at guessing...

MattB
10-11-2006, 05:38 PM
It takes a little more bone than that to go 175" as a 3 point. It may gross 165-170 but without seeing it in person its tough to say from a picture!

Great bull ellebee, congrats. I also have to agree with the general consenses, that buck is well over 140. I'd get rescored by an official, I think you might be surprised.
