Here is my first attempt at taxidermy. I tanned the hide myself and mounted this one up last week. I am just waiting for it to finish drying and then touch it up with some paint.

I'd say that's a pretty damn fine first effort!! Did you have any training, or you just picked it up?

I know what you mean...... Around the eye's still need to be painted. Some of the epidermis came off during the tanning and the white hide is showing through...

Never reveal an unfinished product.

The critique you get will lead you in a different direction that what was planned and if you showed a finished product for comments, you would've taken them to heart and learnt MORE for the next time around.

Good first effort, I've seen worse form some pros!

How did you tan it?

I pickled the hide with citric acid for 4 days, shaved it with a filet knife on a fleshing beam, and used a paint-on tan called Trubond 1000. The tanning process is pretty simple if you follow the directions to a T and watch the Ph level of the pickle.
