Well after months ofplanning our New Year’s hunt has come and gone. It was sure different spending New Years Eve in a Rustic log cabin in the frozen north away from the rest of the family. One to remember though! It was a great hunt, fullof adventures only the north can give you at this time of year. TheHalfway River Valley is absolutely beautiful, and we are already hoping to return one day. I was able track, stalk and harvest my first bison in thethick spruce timber. It wasn't the biggest one of the bunch, but she will be good eating! It was a challenging retrieval that the four of usendured on the mountain slope that evening. Pulling it down by hand with the skimmer only as the slope was too much for the sled! Once the Bison was down ourfocus was to get my son Michael on his first Elk. It came down to thelast day when we came across a herd that was accessible. Michael was ableto put a well place shot through the shoulder of a big cow elk at 410 yardswith his 7-08 Remington. Another one for the accubond! The old girl tipped over 15 yards later. Harvesting the elk made the trip even more special, as it is alwayssatisfying to see the next generation of young hunters following in this ageold tradition and sport that we enjoy so much. Many thanks to our greatfriends, Todd and Dawson(13) for their support and good times shared. A shout out to all others (you know who you are )for the tips, advice and support that made this all come together. Met some fantastic people on the trip and I have nothing but good things to say about Glen and Tylene and the stay at the Pink Mtn Ranch. Thanks in advance to Mike for posting the photos for me shortly. Enjoy!

I am going to the Half Way River on January 18 to hunt bison with my nephew. It is his first bison hunt and he is a new hunter though an adult. I was there in 2007 with my friend and he got a bison so I know a bit about the area. I also heard the bison numbers were down and they were hard to find, is that true? Do you hve any suggestions for our hunt? We are staying at the Blueberry Ranch. Thanks. Fogy.

Very good hunt, with excellent success! Congratulations! That is a heck of a fine shot by your son to put his elk down as well. You are right, it is great to see the younger generation interested in hunting and fishing. Some good memories for you, your son and his friend, plus great steaks.
