Mt. Baker Elk

So I was heading up to do some snowboarding at Mt. Baker last Friday. Just before the climb up the mountain my buddy spotting this nice bull elk on the side of the road. I googled it and it says there are a few herds that use the mount baker as their winter area. Anyone think these guys will be coming north of the line into the chilliwack/harrison area anytime soon?

I don't know much about Elk behavior so someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but I would think that any route north would be disagreeable due to the amount of human traffic.

Well they are around Mission area though, so I would think that anything is possible that they could come up to 2-4

They are in the Chilliwack/Skagit already. Have been for at least 3 years that I know about.

Watch the movie Deer Hunter. They show the guys hunting with Mt. Shuksan in the background... and the "deer" they show is a bull elk. Did they do some creative editing, bring in a farmed elk, or was it really there?

Mt. Baker is only about 5km South of the border...just needs to get over/around a couple mtns and they will be in Canada

Where abouts did your buddy spot it? I am down there every weekend and would love to get a few nice pics of them.

On the Mt. Baker hwy, about 5 km before you start the climb up the mountain... just standing about 10ft in the tree's on the side of the road

there used to be a herd of elk just up from tamihi bridge area some 20+ yrs back i heard the local Natives cleaned them out but maybe not!?!?

They have been and are in the back end of Chilliwack for many years, and the Skagit as others have mentioned. I do not think that there are very many of them in Chilliwack, but I have always seen tracks over the last 15 years hunting up there, but I have only seen 1 elk and that was about 3 years ago
