Silke pocket boy.( or gom boy) the pocket boy is the perfect pack size. Japanese hand saw. folds up, about 50$ cuts through wood like a hot knife through butter and same for bone. closest thing to a lazer beam.

My Gerber combo has served me well for 10 years. It's light, easy to take apart & clean and you can buy new blades for $8 at Wholesale Sports. Saved my butt when I got lost last year too - used the wood blade to make a nifty "SurvivorMan" shelter!

Yeah, I don't even use a saw to cut up an animal.

I have the Buck folding saw works pretty damn good and light weight. It works good enough for knock'n legs of or cut'n a spine either at head or mid body if I can't hit the sweet spot for some reason.

Use the gutless method and more need for a saw.

However, I carry a Wyoming saw for cutting crap and I received a Gerber pack w/ gut hook, knife and saw w/two blades.

Cheers

I also have little use for a saw when cutting up an animal in the bush. A small folding knife will do everything just fine with the gutless method. That being said I do carry a small saw in my pack, all I've used it for is cutting the skull plate out, and a few times for cutting wood for a fire. It's a a Bahco Laplander (got it from MEC), it cuts well, is very light, and best of all it's orange, so it's harder to lose!

dI have the Coghlans folding saw. It's been amazing. I got it at 3-Vets years ago. It's an aluminum handle...very strong and light and came with the wood blade which just rips thru wood. I bought a bone blade for it last year at Wholesale and it's great too. It's a little quircky to set up but very strong. I would highly recommend it.

X2 Wyoming make a small one which I carry in the mountains and a little larger on with a hip belt that I use for hunting when not having to pack it more than 5 miles. Both are super saws.

I've had one for more than 20 years. Used it to cut sheep, elk moose, deer and wood.

X 2 on the Gerber saw. Comes with a bone and a wood blade - both of which are indispensable.

I've got the original Wyoming Saw (#1 I guess). After trying out both on various animals I deliberately bought the original over the 2 due to the size.

The Wyoming saw 2 is a little longer. I find the smaller, original one easier to pack and use on an animal. I think the 2 is better for cutting wood. Personal preference - as they are both good.

X-2. Have cut up alot of moose with one of these. They have a couple of sizes and I have both of them, the big on in the quad and small one in the pack. Since I don't do the gutless method I find with a sharp knife and one of these saws, its all I need.

Wyoming Saw none better , my last one was over 20 yrs old still working fine and I gave it to a new hunter on this site,I'm sure he will get 20 yrs out of it also,I like the WS 2 with the longer blades if you have to saw logs off the road it works like a charm.

For all you guys that don't carry a saw, do you carry the whole head out then or leave the antlers. I carry a saw to cut the skull cap with. It is a Wyoming saw and works great.

This saw is the best IMO. Most guys dont know about them because they arent sold in outdoors stores but Slegg Lumber carries them. Better than any saw I've seen in a sporting goods store. They come in two or three different sizes and you can get 3 different interchangeable blades with different tooth sizes for them. Watch your fingers!

My dad has one of those Kershaw blade traders (i think thats what theyre called), comes with 5 or 6 different blades and a saw. Never used it myself, but looks like a handy little kit.

Agree on the silkie. Pocket boy is about 8 inches, gom boy is about 10 I think. Incredibly sharp and portable.
