HA! success!!!..However this photo is from Chilcotin Hillbillys` camera...I wanted to post a photo BEFORE the exploits saga...
Will post events soon...however the Lynx was one of THE most majestic regal animals I have ever encountered..and was worth the CONSIDERABLE effort of this old overweight hunter...very gratifying...and the girls Cookie..Zoey...Vickey....and of course THE cat hunter himself Chilcotin Hillbilly...amazing knowlege..abilites..=success..

lol actually what the trip started out to be is a thinning of the wolf population..I took my .270 and 50 rounds of 130 grain medicine for wolves..lots of tracks but no wolves moving......the new pup did good with help from the experienced leaders...nice visit with friends and some great photos...and plenty of excercise..

beauty pic. i imagine the hounds must be having a harder time this winter with the lack of fresh snow days in most of BC.

hmmmm yes pussied out lol..as for the snow..it actually was surprising how well the dogs did on the mixture of snow and then no snow conditions..once a fresh track was discovered they were simply amazing..even the newbie..however Doug was exceptional..... he could tell size of the cat, age of the track and tried explaining the intricisies of each one we discoverd.

I was hoping for some long range wolf shooting however they stayed hidden only their tracks showing their presence..

the hunting out west is probably over for me for this year...as I have a thing called work...and then off tro Cabelas in Lacey for a couple days..fly fishing clothes..etc...then off to Hawaii for 2 weeks... some marlin fishing, snorkeling and a pig hunt...

it was like plus 10 degrees today in Williams Lake... we literally have no snow in our yard... 2 feet last year at this time..and not much out west either..worst snow conditions in 30 years...hardly the la Ninya?? year they told us..

Hopefully might get out last of this season..IF snow conditions improve vastly..would love to get a big black wolf..in prime condition..not sure what condition the fur will be with this warm weather??

hmmm I learned so much about Lynx... and how different they are to cougars...how they react to dogs is completely different..and watching the progress on the hand held tracking unit was a education..how the lynx would circle and use log piles and thick brush to try and elude the dogs..this lynx was like a 3.2 mile run before he finally treed, and then we tried the most direct track to the tree,,

That being said I need to be in much better physical condition, uphill in low snow conditions was a challenge... for Doug a breeze..I did not quit..just took me a lot longer...Chilcotin Hillbilly joked that I sounded like a steam engine puffing up the hill..and looked like a wet sasquatch dripping with sweat..
I made a mistake coming out and downhill..my boots were wet and loosed up considerably..and I did not figure out that till my ankles were wasted from rolling sideways..incredibly painful..should have retied them..tighter..DUH!

Was suprised by the incredible majesty of the lynx..highly UNDER RATED as a big game animal..and absolutley beautiful...

CH was as usual the consumate expert and was incredibly patient with my progress and questions...cats are not my forte..however learned loads from Doug..helping my education.

Without exceptional hounds this would not be doable...lynx would leave you in the powder..and once you crossed other cat tracks you would be screwed..

I made sure the dogs knew I appreciated their superb effort..their skill and stamina..

i was so impressed with the whole event..only 'DISAPOINTMENT" was the damn wolves being so elusive..and that was not anything within Dougs doing...just moving at night

the valley has to be one of THE most beautiful places in BC....

hmmm Did you shoot the lynx then or what? Why is there a picture of it alive if its not dead?

Why all the questions? Think your the king of dragging threads out....lol

I just want to know why there is a picture of a live cat in a tree, and not a picture of a dead one? I want to see a Lynx lying dead with blood splattered majestically all over the snow.

I will begrudgingly take second place to Jelvis and change my title to the Prince of dragging threads out.

hmmm Did you shoot the lynx then or what? Why is there a picture of it alive if its not dead?

Sorry Dave yes you did indeed ask days ago....no I did not shoot this animal.... I relied on Doug and he felt although mature we could eventually do even better he felt this was a 25 pound cat and we could add another 5 pounds to that figure..

This TRULY was a time when it wasnt about "the harvest" but the chase..which I tremendously worked at but thoroughly enjoyed just seein the cat in the tree.. as can be seen the cat wasnt going anywhere and could have been harvested I merely chose not to....for selfish reasons..I get to try again..lol

I get the distinct feeling from CH that chasing Lynx with dogs is FAR HARDER than cougar...and his dogs did an exceptional job of staying the course..you cant believe the twists and turns the lynx made trying to escape the chasing hounds..not a mad dash in a straight line but round in circles and through the tightest thickest %#%^#^%%^ through blow downs and watching the entire "chase " on screen... as it happened in real time was a education in itself..

cheers
Steven

great pics Srupp
sounds like a challanging hunt !
and goes to prove that the kill, is not the most important aspect of a hunt to a true sportsmen.
