Well, seeing as things are finally slowing down I figured I would post a couple pics for you all. It won't be a well written painfully long write-up because it was a very basic hunt with nothing miraculous to describe to you.
Here are a couple scenery shots for ya first:

So we spotted a goat the day before and hiked up from the quad for about 3 hours before getting on top of the guy. He gave us a bit of the slip and I only had a few seconds to shoot before he rounded a corner. I was pretty disappointed because my hunting partner Travis was on his first ever goat hunt and I really wanted him to be the one to pull the trigger. Unfortunately he did not have a shot on this one. :(

Above is me on the edge of the cliff. The pic below has my buddy Travis and clearly shows how lucky we were to get this goat. In truth I should have thought twice about pulling the trigger on this guy. If he hadn't hit the three tiny trees it was a few hundred foot drop only 30 feet downhill.

Here are a couple more pics of the goat. It wasn't overly heavy but much better than the one I got the year before. Green measurements were 5 inch bases and both horns were virtually identical at 9 15/16 each.

I dragged a water filter all the way up there with plans to stay the night. After shooting the Billie in the morning we continued up the Mtn and found another one about a days hike further back. Neither one of us wanted to carry two Billies out so we left it for next year. Funny thing about the water filter was that there are no water sources up there at all. I couldn't remember from years past. After staying the night just below alpine Travis hiked up to the peak and was able to gather and melt enough snow on a windlip for us to survive. We went to bed very thirsty the first night.
That night was really cold for us. I don't know how Travis was warm enough. I had a nice new "Solar Flare" North Face sleeping bag and down filled Xped Thermarest. His thermarest had a giant hole in it and his sleeping bag was paper thin and worn out. Either way neither one of us complained.
On the original hike up we were talking about spending the night up there. When I mentioned how small me tent was he looked at me and said "You never told me I had to bring a tent too!" I thought I had but it's all water under the bridge now. All I know is that I don't ever want to sleep "nut to butt" with a grown man again.
We slept in a small clearing that was the only flat area for miles. Must have been a pick-up spot for heli skiers.
The goat was shot with my trusted Browning X-bolt 7mm-08. Took out the vertebrae in the neck and it was all over. Due to where the goat ended up, no shot in this exact situation could have been any better.

Thanks for your vague question Everett. You left me the ability to do the same. I was near Golden and that is as far as I'll narrow it down.

Just looking at the first few pictures got chills running down my arms. Heights I dont like them. And you are just standing like your on a flat surface.
Very nice goat. Are you going to get a head mount or a full body mount done?

Ha, Ha! Yup, I almost fell once and was just lucky I caught one of the three trees as I started to lose my balance. The trick was to dig a flat spot with my hiking boots to stand on.
Shoulder mount for that one. I expect it back Halloween if luck is with me!

I must take issue with your " nothing miraculous" statement. The scenery is exactly that, miraculous. A beautiful adult goat whose cape is m.. you know, and yes, a great story to go with it all too. Thanks.

Thanks for the positive comments guys,
One guy PM'd me and knew exactly where I was, and I am pretty sure that Goatguy knows the general area atleast.
We hunted moderately hard for Elk right in the middle of the rut, and saw zero.
Not a single Mule deer this year either, although I have spotted some in the past.
Saw tonnes of Bull Moose which was unexpected and highly unusual for the area.

Wicked pictures and a very nice goat! Congratulations and thanks for sharing with us. Definitely some steep stuff.

Don't worry about the "nutt to butt" stuff it's only ghey if U R in the same sleeping bag, or cowboying a bunch of sheep in wyoming with Heath Ledger :)

Nice billy Fish, that reminds me of a cold night spent up the mountain above Chilco Lake, no tent, no sleeping bag just a light jacket and a grizzly circling my camp fire.
But it sure was fun:mrgreen:

Congrats on a nice goat. A couple great photos in there as well. Funny about the partner with the paper thin sleeping bag - my buddy realized just how worn out his -20 synthetic was on our Nov deer hunt...when he saw it had half the loft of my -9 bag!

Beautiful scenery shots and nice goat.
Those shots on the ledge with the goat were giving me the heebegeebees...I have never hunted goat but I,m guessing that you should always be prepared for that kind of situation.
I had a similar situation with the water on a multiday hunt in the alpine this year and it definitely complicates the logistics of the hunt.
Anyway...Contrats on a well deserved trophy.

I've always considered that valley to be pretty decent for moose especially the bottom lands.

Used to hunt it for elk a lot back in the '70s and early '80s when all that clearcutting was going on, it was a real hot spot for elk at that time, not so much anymore but they seem to be making a bit of a comeback compared to a few years ago.

Never was much of a valley for deer except in the lower end and in that secret little hidden tributary gem up near the headwaters.

Epic photo. Standing in places like that is worth enduring all of the training, preparation and hardship. Hunting goats brings you to places you otherwise wouldn't dare to go, physically and mentally.

Congrats and thank you for sharing.
