You think it is cool enough to let hang for a day or two now? I thought it was a bad idea to leave meat outside when temp is above 10 celsius. temps are still pretty high is this area. Nights are nice and cool though. Fine to hang overnight but then you gotta boot it home or to a cooler

Normally isn't a problem in October so long as it cools off well at night and it's shaded - no bugs getting on it etc.,

How many days do you think you could hang outside in South Okanagon right now? say with high temps of 17 celcius down to 0 at night and game is hung in shade in a game bag? Very curious about this as I am headin up this weekend and was thinkin I would have to bomb home within 24hr of baggin something.

I leave Sat morning for 5 days and will be camping in 8-8. Were I will be camping will be atleast 0 over night and will be frost for sure. I will be hanging my meat in the shaded trees , vinager wash then into game bags. I will be checking the meat to see if it is cool but do not for see a problem. If I have troubles with high temp I am only 1hr from my butcher. This time of year there is only a couple hours in the day were it is warm and when you go into the shade it is noticable.

Good luck

There is a young guy here in Rock Creek who has just started up. Good clean butcher with a nice shop. Has worked for the said John Soloway. John is good to, but I am supporting the young guy trying to make a go of it like myself. His name is Ken Corfe. He is in the book in Rock Creek. Look for his sign just above Rock Creek heading West near Canons cement plant and gravel pit.

ok mtnmax. Going to try the hang and vinegar method. Wife made me a big game bag last night too. You ever hear of using citrus acid instead?

No I haven't. I know for dog training the mutts hate citris. Maybe the odour of the citris will keep the bugs off. I think it is just a matter of using something that will crust up the outside of the meat fast so bugs can't get in. Thats how it was explained to me from the guy who tought me to vinager wash.If you try the citris stuff let us knoe how it works.
