Never been to a 3D event but I registered for this one. See you there.

I'd reccommend you try another 3d event before attending the R-100. A typical 3d round would be 2 sets of 20 targets or 3 sets of 15. The R-100 is 1 set of 50 the first day and another set of 50 the 2nd day. It's going to be a long, hot shoot in July. Check out the 3d schedule at the top of the target forum. I would make an attempt to shoot at least one to get the hang of things. There's a good chance at 500 shooters for the R-100. Might seem a little crazy for a first shoot.

Make sure you've got lots of water to drink. Have lots of sunscreen on hand and also some bug repellant.

Wear a hat and try to keep cool - you'll enjoy the event that much more.

Was going to make the trek down to visit and shoot the R-100 with my brother and my two oldest (8 and 6yr old).....rethinking now though, as 8+ hours in the beating sun may not be a great 3D experience for the young'uns.

I wouldn't worry about it being too hot. It's up the hill a bit from Kelowna on the mission creek valley. Should be perfect temperature.

i'm pretty sure that any issues with water will be laid to rest.as long as our usual water distributer is on board.although for this shoot we just may need more bottles.
hey anyone, whats the word on weather or not the adventure park will be ready for this.

Now that the Rinehart R-100 3-D shoot is confirmed and we are on the schedule I thought I would take this time to answer a couple of FAQ we have been getting.

FAQ,

What is a R-100 ?
The target manufacture Rinehart tours 20 different states with a semi trailer packed with 100, 3-D targets. July 7 / 8, 2012 Rinehart will be coming to Western Canada for the first time ever. Archers will pre register in advance on line at the following link. http://www.r100.org/ Archers shoot a 50 target course Saturday and a separate 50 target course on Sunday. There are novelty shoots on the Saturday evening and over $5,000 in door prizes handed out. This shoot is not a tournament, it is designed to be fun but challenging. There are classes for all shooters. Consider the R-100 a Novelty shoot. This is not a shoot that awards the top three from each class. Shooters with over 1,000 points over the two days will be given pins as done previously.

What to expect ?
On site camping, pre book with Hardcore Archery Shop for camping only,1-250-861-5297. There may be upwards of 500 shooters so plan to have some food and drink with you. A folding shooter chair would be a recommendation it may be a long day. Original targets that are exclusive to this shoot such as Rhino, Tiger, Giraffe, Elephant, Gargoyle, and many the others.

Start time ?
Archers should be ready to start between 7am and 9am at the latest. More than likely each course will be open each day so we can spread shooters out.

To start this will help people that are new to the sport of 3-D archery and the questions have been rolling in. For the rest of us that have shot a few 3-d shoots the major difference here is the originality, the amount of targets, the on line pre registration, and large number of shooters. Other ethan that is typical of any outdoor 3-d shoot.

Don't forget to pre register !!

Mountain Man,

How can I tell if the Rinehart site's online registration is working? I've tried a couple of times now, do I get an acknowledgement or something back?

Cheers

Thanks for the concern knockturnal, I plan to attend as many of the 3D events in the Okanagan area and beyond as I can and do lots of practice in the backyard this spring. Your absolutely correct the 100 targets over 2 days will be a challenge for anyone not ready.

You going Wayne?!? Good for you.

Take lots of sun-blocker, water, and some sort of a seat to use while waiting for your turn.

Oh yeah, and good luck!

I'm going to try and shoot more this year as long as my elbow holds out and then hunt with the bow next fall.
Waaay long ago when I competed in archery I remember some of the shoots were brutal on the FITA field with no shade. I imagine Kelowna in July will be a scorcher. Hopefully a few from the island will make the trip.

Good luck up there, bud. Lots of stretching and buildup exercise for the elbow/arm and you should be good to go.

The first time I shot the R-100 in Olympia they had the Alien but the next two times they did not. Lets hope they bring it to Kelowna!!
They also have the big Giraffe (14ft tall I think).
