Well i have been back in BC for over a week. When i left 3 weeks ago, the fields were full of birds and the seaducks were just starting to show up in good numbers. When i came back, i came back to a wasteland. No ducks anywhere. Its been brutal. However the seaducks seemed to be still in decent numbers.
The problem with that is that you need weather on your side to make a good go of it (not to windy, but windy enough to push the birds around)
Today seemed to be the day. We loaded up the tub and headed out to some new grounds we had never been but looked promising with the spotting scope from shore. We arrived, kicked a load of scoters out and set up. As we were setting up we had a little wind and ducks were decoying all over the place. Of course, once eveything is set, the wind dies and the sun comes out. Oh well fack it. We picked away for a few hours and shot some beauties. Got our first squaw, surf scoter hen and drake, and our token harlis. We took 3 and had a BEAUTY bull come in to 15 yards and he got the 3 cycle no shells in the gun treatment. lol. I shot like crap, but 303 picked up the slack. We picked up around 11 and went for an hour boat ride to do some scouting and found some pretty good pockets of birds. Hope fully the wind keeps down cause this is pretty addictive!
