With the discussion about wolf / coyote calibers, what kind of bullets have been proven to be fur friendly?

I've had good luck with 50gr V-maxes in my 223 and berger 35grHP's in my 204. My friendhas had better luck with deer bullets in his 243 than 58grV-maxes, they've made some big holes.

If I want to save fur, I use a 17 Rem, 25gr Berger at 3975 fps...out to 150m , it kills em like a lightning bolt..and no exit wounds.
Fair success with Factory Win WB 22-250 with what I believe is a 40gr HP.(*at Walmart and CT)..no exit holes..50gr Nosler BT's are also good in 223, and 22-250
55gr Nosler BT in 6mm are great also..at about 3950 fps out of a 243...but it blows holes outward..lol..sure drops em though

On the "Don't" side, I use Dan Opels for target in .224. GREAT target bullets.
NOT fur friendly, as I found out when I caught a coyote chasing my dogs. I'd post pics, but let's just say "grenaded" and leave it at that.

I hit a quartering yote in the hip in hip with a WB 22-250 once, left an entrance hole the size of a grapefruit...... But other than that pretty good luck with them. Mental note, don't shoot coyotes in the hip....

I used to use a 222Rem with fragile varmint bullets on Yotes. They rarely exited. Even if they did the damage is easily reparable by stitching with dental floss while the pelt was still "green" before stretching. Holes and tears when correctly mended don't reduce the value of the pelt.

Once I shot a Lynx with a .308 Win and it tore it up pretty badly, but some dental floss stitching when "green" salvaged the fur for a mount. If you don't want to "blow holes" in your pelt use a light rifle like a 22 Hornet or a shotgun. Call them in close. I never had much sucess with a .22Rimfire but I would guess the .17 HMR might work rather well.

Head shots will reduce the value at time because you might tear an ear or eye brow off and that isn't reparable.
