The boss owns all we find. It is a chunk of Mammoth tusk. The boys on the Gold rush show should be finding some soon.

Greasysidedown, where did you see them ? Alaska, Yukon, or Russia ? You must be a miner.

We usally find 15-20 a season. You do not find much in the way of remains, the odd bone and a few teeth ( which are huge ). There was a fairly intact scull found two years ago that had some hide and flesh on it. This one was found about 10 miles from the infamous Quartz creek in the Yukon. There are lot's on the internet for sale, most of those come from Russia.

I don't care how 'common' they are. It's something that has survived (somewhat) for a very long time. It's cool.

How much do they go for?

Price is very dependent on size and quality. Some of them are kind of rotten and checked and come apart in layers, so not the greatest for carving etc. Matched sets in good shape can go 10k or more. I think that one brought about $300. I have a chunk that is split in half and shows how they grow, I will post a pic of here when I get a chance. Having them pop out of the ground never gets old.
