i have a discussion going on with friends right now about the size of wolves.
what is the biggest wolf you have ever harvested. pictures would be great. weight would be good too if you know what it was. i have never harvested a wolf and the very few i has seen were probably less than 80 lbs like my dog

The #1 wolf in BC was supposedly weighed on butcher's scales and went 130 lbs.

Never shot one myself.

FUGLY!!!

LOL! Hell of a lot "Fuglier" to the Perry Caribou that live on the Island he used to haunt!

Went just over 140 pounds, weighing in MUCH more than most those diminutive little Island Caribou ever reach! Most folks that wander into that room simply assume he is some sort of bear. NOT!

Largest I ever took btw, most won't break 100 pounds...

My Hybrid Boogs does though! Now up to just over 150!!

http://gallery.fishbc.com/albums/Tracks/Boogs_Portrait_2.jpg

NO shooting in his direction please & thanks...

Gave up shooting wolves just before I left the Arctic. Seems they know that, as I've seen a hell of a lot more standing than I ever did before that decision...

Cheers,
Nog

Biggest one I've shot so far was in McBride

male, 6'6", 150lbs. Looked pretty skinny.
The other ones have all been little, which is still big compared to a coyote.

The farm I hunted in Quesnel has a wolf problem. The C.O. put some traps on the property but they only trapped 1, the owner of the property said it was about 140lbs. I didn't see it but he has no reason to lie to anyone he just wants them gone.

Yep, weighed it. To be exact it was 148lbs. It was 6'6" long, nose to tail and really tall and skinny. Tough drag in the deep snow, almost did me in. I was under the impression that it was smaller than average.

Asked around and the conclusion in the BS ring was that it was a young male that was chased off from the pack by the Alpha male. My rug looks similar to the size of the pic of the white one.

I heard a big male could get over 200lbs???

Ive seen a 'few' dead ones over the years now,;)

Around 15 yrs ago there was an old fart working the gas stop near Buckinghorse..er Sikanni? anyway , dude was around 6'3" and was pumpin diesel for me and says " you wanna see a pic of a 250lb wolf?" Im like " uhh , ok" ( laughing under my breath)..he comes back with a pic of this 'beast' hanging by its rear knee joint from the raftors and its damned neck was on the concrete with him in the pic beside it,crazy.

Anyway , lots of people dont realise that a wild wolf is and must be a very lean animal.
As well the wolves on the islands are of the 'grey' species just as the rest of the province and can get just as big as any other wolf.
Heres a wolf I zipped a few years ago and probably still the largest bodied one of my now trapped or shot 60 ish wolves combined over the years of hunting for me and guideing up north and trapping.

Guess the weight and I'll post it tomarrow..we weighed him as he was strangled just across from the house on the side of the Lilloete river.

Another question I always had was how much do they eat at once? Do they pack in 20lbs of meat at a time?

Most of you "mature/experienced/old/dinasuor" hunters will remember Tommy Tompkins, the original survivorman and outdoorsman extrordinaire from way back in the 60s and 70s. He had a wolf pup named Nahanni that he had hand raised from a weiny gaffer that he had saved from death when he rescued it from a frozen river. At 8 months of age he had a picture taken with the wolf standing in front of him with its paws up on his shoulders facing him, it was every bit as big as Tommy and weighed in at 180 lbs at just 8 months. That picture was in the Purden Lake store outside of PG for many years, not sure if the store or picture are there now or not.
Now remember this is a hand raised pup and in the wild it would not have grown like this but it shows the potential that they have if they get the ideal food conditions. We all know that in the animal world of wolves where the pecking order is the way of life that this does not happen. I took a BC book big male wolf with my bow and it was around 100 lbs or so.

Depends on many things including how often they need to kill, which position they hold in the pack and how big the prey is. Remember they dont get a kill everyday so sometimes little or nothing per day and others maybe 20 lbs like you say. That would be the dominate male and females portion and the subordinate others would progressively get less as the carcass was dissolved.

ive had a few sheppards over the years ..it doesnt matter the breeed its more the dog itself ..my last sheppard was an absolute shit hawk .he would eat anything all the time ,with not knowng when to stop ...he once got into the 20kg bag and litterly ate it all .also a 4kg bucket of butter once that i left on the counter .. then the sheppard before him ate like a dainty bird ,he ate one kibblet at a time ..he woulnt touch human food ..weiners ,no steak,no left over scraps ,no .even doggy treats no..

Howdy, quite a few of the wolves I have shot were on moose kills - their stomach area looked like they had swallowed a 10 gallon fuel drum - so I am guessing at least 10+ lbs. of meat in there. Later

Fact on the animal and truely not photoshopped. Location al little bit out but not too far. Circumstances also a wee bit out of wack lol. But no matter as it was harvested legally.

Drayton Valley is kinda like our version of Clearwater lol. Reputaion is only good if you know where and when and the gods smile upon you.
