With some of the recent threads started and cabin fever setting in only three days after deer season ended.... I thought I would share my first bear hunt with you guys.

My friend and I decided last fall that there wasn't enoughhunting time for us in the fall and to help fill the void, we would try a spring bear hunt. (A first for both of us) We set off for a week of bear hunting at my family’s cabin. The trip in was promising with a sighting of ourfirst bear at dusk. Through out the week we spotted a total of 13 bears, one of which my friend took a shot at and missed cleanly, another first for him and yes it was a very humbling experience for him. It was the last day of our trip that I found a bear I was interested in shooting. I wanted either a large mature black bear or a nice coloured bear. He's not huge by any stretch of the imagination but I think he got some great colouring. It was a bit anti-climactic as we spotted him on our way out on the edge of the road. I parked the truck and got in to around 75 yards and I had my first bear!

We actually bumped into the trapper up there and got to BSing with him, I showed him the picture and that was his thought. I've never seen any sh*t like that stuff, or caribou sh*t for that matter. We found two distinct piles of it so if it was a bear he had a rough couple of days... hah ah

Why does everyone shooting a black bear seem to want the rarer blonde/brown coloured ones? Will this not just lead to a gradual less and less of these bears with the genes for these colours?

Thanks everyone! I was shooting a browning a-bolt in 300wsm with a leupold vx3.5x10x50.

cbb - No shortage of coloured bears around, this was the forth one I've spotted in the last 2 years. They're usually a redish colour, this was the first blonde/brown one I've seen.

here is a griz we found not a great pic but it was sure cool to watch him graze... He sure had a "I'm the king of the hill" walk down pat.

Brown/colored bears don't just have colored cubs. I've seen black sows with brown and black cubs, brown sows with black cubs and also a mix of each. Bet we run close to 50% colored bears around here.

Can't wait for spring bear season! Thanks for the pics!
