Last day muley buck

Had the last 2 days of the season to look for a good buck. Just like last year, it seemed the local bucks were pretty much nocturnal and staying bedded in the timber all day. Tracked this guy in the fresh snow for a few kms through cutblocks and timber before his tracks led to a wildlife tree patch. My buddy quickly circled the patch and confirmed no exit tracks - he's in there! I set up on the far side where I could see 3 sides of the patch. My buddy crept in following the tracks, hoping to jump the buck in his bed or push him to me. A few minutes later I saw movement, and the buck stopped for a brief second while still amongst the trees. Then he came right out running, and I flattened him!

A big thanks to my buddy kgriz for an awesome hunt! I couldn't be happier with this buck!

For those who care about the minor details, I shot a handloaded 165 grain Hornady GMX out of my Rem 700 Titanium in 30/06.

Nice job man. Would have taken serious patience to circle the WTP carefully like that. Often could have turned into an unsucessful wild goose chase. A road hunter - you are not!!!

To answer a few questions:
No we had not seen him before.
Yes he was by himself, cruising for ladies I assume!
No kgriz didn't see him. Smelled him as he got close, and just as he came upon the iced over bed he heard me shoot.
marc - click on the picture and a bigger one pops up. My new camera is 14megapixels and the files are too large full sized, so I have to resize to put in a thread.
He lost over 5 inches on his front right forks, had they matched the left he would have gone over 180. I am not complaining though, still my best buck by far!

Congrats on a nice looking mule deer , he looks good. If you want to post a bigger picture just resize your original on your computer to large then upload it to the gallery on this site. After that it can be opened up then you can copy and paste it to your thread.
