Well I went to sask to shot a nice buck like everyone else who drove out there. Everyone I talked to told me not to shoot anything on the first day as I would most likley regret it and see a bigger buck. So the plan was just to scout the first day. However I had decided that I wanted to take a 120 plus deer and would be happy with anything in that range. Also having never shot a big deer I was not going to pass on something the first day that I wouldn't shoot the last day.
With all that in mind we set out on opening morning. By 830am we had seen two 3 point bucks, does. And one monster mule deer. We then drove to the next piece of land we could hunt on. There was a buck walking across the field and I immediately knew it was the animal I came for. I got out of the truck and went to move in on the deer. The buck slowly made his way to a coolie and as soon as he droped in to it I was able to rush across the field to the edge of the drop off. I sat down and prepaired for a shot. With the deer in the cross hairs and about to shoot I questioned myself if I was doing the right thing shooting the buck opening morning. The buck then lifted his head out of the brush and it was only a 3 point. I had almost shot the wrong deer. I paused and after a few minutes found my buck. He had looped around and was now walking towards me. I lined up on him knowing that it was the buck I wanted. At 100 yards down hill I squeezed the trigger and with a huge flinch I realized that the safety was on. After clicking off the safety I line up on the deer and squeeze one off. The shot passes just behind the frount legs through the lungs. However the buck barley flinches. With my trophy walking away I lined up again and put one through his neck just behind his head and he drops on the spot. Can anyOne guess on a score I'm not to good at that?
