Someone told me about using pinesol to keep bears and other carnivores away from a kill. The story went that they had killed and dressed a moose and had to leave it for a few days to get help to pack it out. They had seen plenty of grizzly sign in the area as well as coyotes, etc. Pinesol was sloshed liberally on the gutpile and around the quarters which were covered with spruce branches. No animals touched any of it. Has anyone heard of this before? Is it just a story or does it work? If it works, I'd use it on fish coolers in the summer as well.

We use it around our camp and it definitely works great. Seems like an invisible fence for wildlife.

That's interesting. I'll need to try that next year to keep a grizzly out of the boat.

I find the leaving it for a few days more odd than the pinesol working!

The story was they had to walk out and bring horses back in. The meat was well chilled. It's just what the guy told me.

Pinesol keeps lions and tigers out of bathrooms too. Been using it for years, never had an infestation of lions or tigers at my house!

Bears have been known to eat geery cans of deisel and gas I have personally had it happen don't think diesel works.
Nor would it be good to douse an area with it

It would be a interesting study with a trail cam in a bear heavy area and a bag of oats.

we use ammonia around our camp in the Mackenzie mountains. Their sensitive whiffers can't take it, although it does wash away if it rains fairly hard. That area is absolutely polluted with Grizzlies, but they don't mess with the ammonia. never tried pine sol.

I heard of one hunter who covered his kill with a tarp and then poured pinesol over top, he swore by it!

Nor would it be good to douse an area with itRight so all evidence should be removed with a match.
Remember Fire is good for wildlife.
