I went out deer hunting this morning. I heard coyotes howling from every hill and valley. Just for the heck of it I called back at the song dogs and this guy came in.

Well done.
I was up in McBride deer hunting a couple weeks ago and after climbing to an elevated area where I could look out over a cleared area as well as a thicket, I started rattling. Nothing developed so after an hour or so I started using a rodent distress call. I stood up once to shift positions and wouldn't you know, there's a coyote staring at me from 250 ish yds away. I settled back down hoping to call him closer but he had made me. He started to lope away and I turned him with another call.
The little bugger was onto me but with the sun in his eyes I'm not sure how visible I was. I leaned into a trunk to steady my shot and squeezed one off fully expecting to see him slump. No such luck but I bet he won't come waltzing in to any more dieing rabbit calls for a while!
Glad your story had a happier ending.

I'll just have it tanned to hang on the wall. It's not much use for anything else. I had only my deer rifle with me, Weatherby Vanguard .270 using 140 grain Nosler Accubond bullets. Blew a huge hole in the offside, taking out the front leg and half of his ribcage. Been thinking of getting something in the order of a .223 or .22-250 caliber for coyotes now that fur prices increase again.

Holy crap a real picture
I am not going to write an article on coyote hunting anytime soon. Therefore that picture has not much financial potential to me. :)
