My partners and I were heading to our hunting area this morning. We were looking in some fields along the way. My partner said there is something so I backed up, nothing we watched for a minute and a young black bear stood up out of some oats. He looked around and then went back down to feeding. This is the latest I have ever seen one out up here. It was -15 snowing a bit with a foot of snow on the ground. It has been as low as -27 the last couple days so to see this guy was a shock. He was about 200 yards out into a private field so we didn't get a picture of this bear. I was just wondering if anyone else have seen late blacks in conditions like these.

Sometimes the younger ones are a bit stupid I guess, hopefully he will den up soon. I saw one once in mid December at my sisters house in Kitimat that was a bit of a surprise.

Seen lots into December, usually skinny/in bad shape desperately trying to fatten up.

Mike Yeah, I killed a big blackie Nov 10, 2011 in Williams lake. I never seen anything like it. I never see them out that late. Usually all denned up by now.

If there's feeding oportunities for them they can stay out way later. Especially if they're not as fat as they'd like to be. The purpose of hibernation is to conserve energy, so if he has a chance to store more then why wouldn't he?

Bear woke me me up this morning at 3am. Tipped over the garbage can and emptied the bird feeder, then rolled around in my wife's flower bed. I'm in PG.

We saw a really nice color phase blacky nov 12 in the peace. No snow lots of oats why go to sleep when you can continue to eat good with fairly warm weather

My first mistake was planting oats this year! Still have 4 grizzlies coming to feed every day. The black bears, however, are gone. Either they've gone to sleep or the grizzlies ate them...

The deer should be coming to feed though too!!!

Saw a Black bear sow and her 1.5 yr cub yesterday morning above Marysville. They were both cinnamon colored.

Last year we had a sow with two cubs in our back yard in December...40KM northeast of Prince George.
