If you had around a $1000 what scope would you buy for big game hunting

Leupold VX 3 in either 3.5-10x40 or 4.5-14x40

I own a few 3.5-10x40, have one on a gun that's 25 yrs old,never lost it's zero and never caused me a moment's grief,

I'm just looking at buying a VX3 4.5-14x40 CDS to put on a new rifle I just bought.
Pretty hard to go wrong with a Leupold VX3,great optics, great waranty you probably will never need.

i would save my self about $600 and buy a bushnell elite 6500. i now have the elite 3200 in 3x9x40 and am very happy with it.

Zeiss conquest are clear optics & are in your price range but if something goes wrong be prepared to wait as the turn around time on the warranty is ridiculous !I sent a 3.5-10 x 50 in to be repaired in June received it back NOV still not fixed???:confused:Sent it back again who knows when I will get it back, needless to say I missed the hunting season! The New Leupold VX-R is a great optic & I will be changing all my rifle scopes to them including the Zeiss, when I eventually get it back!:icon_frow

I have a weaver grand slam as my back-up scope, its just sitting on my gun safe. I have a leupy vx-r on my 338WM and its a good scope. I got it delivered to my door for $680 taxes in. I want to try to save some cash for a swaro z3 with the bxr reticle to mount on my 30-06 as my next purchase.

from what i hear you cant beat leupold customer service times.
but you can beat there products and conquests are far better scopes than leupold vx3,s
much better lense quality and that is what i look for in a scope

Probably a Zeiss conquest or a Bushnell 4200. The Leupold VX3 is also a good scope but not as bright in lowlight with my eyes.

It is true that the Leupold customer service is legendary - but it is the only scope I've had to send in for repairs...

depends on what I'd be using it for, but probably a Leupold Vx3 3.5-10x40 and the rest of the $$ can be put towards beer, drugs and reloading supplies

Canadian Tire (tasco/simmons) would be the last place I would go if I had $1000 to spend on a scope....pick up a ziess, leupold for sure....or save a bit more for a swarovski.

Depends on the rifle and what kind of hunting you do but I'll assume a standard size bolt action and everything from 20 to 300 yards. I'd go with a Leupold VX-III, either in 3.5-10X40 or 2.5-8X36. Then put the extra $$ towards boots, a pack, time off work to hunt or practice shooting, better binoculars, or any of the other stuff that ultimately matters more than your rifle scope.
