Was out this past weekend with Isaac, my girlfriends younger brother hunting the Grand Forks area. After filming a few nice mulie bucks and a stomper ram I set out in quest of a whitey buck to end my "ungulate" season. The morning of Saturday Nov 19th I headed up into my favourite spot in the area to hunt. Not seeing much for whiteys other then a couple does I headed quickly over to my other "honey hole". Getting to the spot me and Isaac instantly started locating many deer in which one was a spike buck. Watching him chill around with the does for a while I began to think it was time to move on when all of a sudden a small average 4x4 walked out to our left headed towards the spiker and does...
Isaac willing to take the buck did not get a chance due to the buck dissapearing obver a slight hill. Coming up with a game plan of how to get this buck...we decided to try and rattle him in for fun. Isaac had to run back to the truck to get the set of rattling antlers to see if we could rattle him in. Just after he left for the few minutes I glanced way up on the mountain side in a totally different spot and spotted 2 whitey's standing together. Identifying one was a better then average buck and in a perfect spot to try out my long distance shooting I have practiced a bunch on I figured I would take him. Ranging the tree-line beside him I got a reading of 448 yards. Scrambling around I eventually got a rest, compensated for the steep uphill angle and squeezed off knocking the buck down. It was neat shooting that far dropping the animal and it felt rewarding. So then we hiked way up the steep mtn side to the buck, cut my tag and took pics and celebrated before the work started.
Here are some pics of the buck and where I shot from...enjoy.
Here is my set up and where I shot from to where the buck is laying. The buck is in the strip of white way up toward the top of the mtn dead just outside the timber line.
