G'day,
my name is Jason. I write to you from sunny Australia. I grew up hunting and with a great deal of interest into North american hunting, the species and the wilderness that you have.

Have decided I am going to make a trip over there and get amongst it and finally experience it. As it will be likely only be a one off and cost me many thousand dollars I want to take my time in selecting the location.

I hunt deer in Australia. (fallow deer) We do not hunt them in the rut as it is illegal so hunting them can be very hard due to there elusive nature. This is the type of hunting I enjoy most anyway. I would guess the species I am most interested in therefore, would be deer (whitetail and mule) as well as elk but really whatever is hardest to come by and stalk. I would also be interested in a hunting trip incorporating horseback hunting. I enjoy doing it tough and am most comfortable away from daily luxuries.

So the question is where would you go? Especially , knowing what you know now, you could go on one hunt only in north america? I have listed this question on the Alberta website also and received many comments. Also many people recommending places outside of their own province in private messages to avoid the controversy.

Look forward to any replies and thank you in advance.

many questions to follow about licensing and regulations but for now just want to zero in on a prime location.

Cheers,

Jason

I would go to southeastern BC for elk. Also it is not on your list but a mountain goat in the same area would be awesome. You should be able to find an outfitter that could do a combo hunt for you with elk both species of deer, goats or even sheep there. It all depends on how much time and money you have. Good luck with your quest.

Jason,
You must first figure out how much canadian $$$ you are willing to spend ......... that will determine more what you can hunt for here unless ....... you have a direct relative to one of our BC residence, there are some breaks then.

Check out B. C. Hunting regulations for costs of tags for non-residence etc. thats a start. You MUST be guided though. In general, a sheep hunt any where from 10,000 to 25000 bucks for Rams, and I am talking full curl Trophy regulations, to deer and bear hunts for 4000 to 6000. Elk, generally more, and moose the same. Good luck to you though as I would love to visit your neighbors in New Zealand for Stag ........ likely will never happen though due to costs. These are only general costs and the vary from Guide to Guide.

Good luck to you.

My vote would be region 7-50 northern BC for elk ,moose ,caribou and there are a few whitetail deer and mule deer in the area.

Hands down , go to the Yukon territory. Moose caribou grizzly combo hunt, add a wolf and a beaver, you can't get more canadian than that.
