Started the hunt with our plan to hit up our old hunny hole where weve been quite successful with bringing out big November bucks, and after today it wasnt any different :) On our way up the road we ran into a herd of deer. This was around 7:45-8 ish after scoping a bunch of the deer we found a big 4pt amongst them. at around 100 yards through multipal trees after taking two shots all the deer were gone. after hiking around there was no sign of a wounded animal no blood to be found, this big boy lives to breed another day.
a little discouraged but with high hopes of finding another big muley we continued.
Arriving at our spot my friend Jessie, my dad and I started to hike. Unfortunately due to shoulder surgery i couldnt fill my region 3 tag but with a 3pt buck already taken and having my first successful backpack goat hunt i was still extremely excited to head into our spot. Me and my buddy took one way (un armed except a camera, deer grunt, binoes and antlers for rattling) and my dad took another with a designated meeting area pre arranged
with deer sign everywhere it wasnt more then 300yards when we came across some does. me and jessie decided to wait around this area a bit in hopes of a buck waiting to jump all over these hot and botherd does. after a few minutes of glassing we found a big set of antlers and moved to get a better glimpse. after 15 mins of watching this buck we decided that one of us should sprint to get my dad. I stayed and kept the buck interested with the odd grunt and rubbing of the antlers. 10 mins later i seen my dad and jessie speed walking to my location. there presence briefly spooked the buck moving it directly into my dads sights BOOM! the buck drops and the does semi scatter. (this is at 9:30am) with huge smiles and high fives all around we started on the work. *Note* shot this buck not more then 300yards from my 5x5 double drop buck 2 years ago.... they all seem to have little extra tines in this area :-D
