Friday fling in the swamp

Well, we have to work this weekend so no swamp tromping for us. I had Friday off, so John took yesterday morning off and we along with Rayne-dog headed out to the frosty swamp.

It was a still morning and we had to break the ice to set the decoys, in addition the tide wasn't going to be high until 11:00 a.m. so we were not expecting super action. However we were pleasantly surprised that the ducks arrived at appropriate intervals to keep us warm.

Rayne was happy for the fairly frequent action.

We ended the 2 hour hunt with 14 mallards and 2 soup pot widgeon :-D, one of the drake mallards was in very early eclipse plummage stage.

Breakfast was a ducky affair with a preliminary of duck terrine on toasted baguette slices topped with a quail egg. Following that appetite squelcher we had teal pizza. ( the teal from a previous hunt)
