I'm thinking of heading up to the Peace for a few days to look for mule deer. The forecast is for -20 with snow. I have a small wall tent with a stove.

Am I insane?

Should be the perfect weekend!

It's been pretty slow here so far, this weather should heat things up!

Good fire + good bottle of liquid fire + warm clothes + blankets = good time.

About 5" of fresh snow fell last night in FSJ -11 with a 15 km wind = -18 . Should be a productive weekend after the storm stops. Good luck and have fun.

UPDATE 9" of snow with drifts up to 14" windy and blowing snow with low visability. You might want to bring a snow shovel too clear a spot for your tent.

Insane? NO....a little adventurous maybe, if you didn't have the stove you'd really make me wonder. Curious about how you plan to stake that tent down though?

bucks are really starting to rut now good timing saw a whopper whitetail tuesday heading back to the cabin tomorrow for a few days and try and gather him up. if you have a wall tent and good stove no problem with the weather just cut lots of wood we now have more darkeness than daylight up here makes for a long night. good luck

Will be hitting the Peace country myself the last few days of the season. I'm praying for really cold weather.

I heard they was a bit more snow on the way, the drift in my driveway was over 2 feet high. I would bring a shovel as mentioned before. I'm going to spend a little time with my wife and son tonight and head to alberta for a couple of days hunting with family. I hope this cold has the bucks out and about over there too.

too cold not at all. I have the end of November to hunt deer, I hope the cold stays without too much more snow.

Minus 16 on the thermometer on my desk right now, it's been snowing and windy all day. Should be getting to good deer hunting....

Check Drive BC first, I just came thru the Pine Pass yesterday and the snow is piling up fast. Make sure the hwy is open as that could really wreck your trip. Once you get to Chetwynd and Dawson area there is not much snow...yet...good luck.

-20 is more than mangeable if you have a stove and plenty of wood go enjoy yourself!

-16 and stil lightly snowing, we got lots of snow now!

Last night at work the deer were sure moving, I drive a lot of farm country in the dark from well site to well site, and I cut several large loner toe draggin tracks and got glimpses of a couple good bucks in the headlights. Lots of does in the headlights too.

Watching a show on Yakutsk, Siberia to get me in the mood :D

Might head out early in the a.m. so I can find a camp before dark. Thanks for the encouragement (I think)

Well I survived without any frostbite or hypothermia so that's a good thing. There was about a foot of snow and temperatures were as advertised, down to -25 or so I think.

I couldn't connect with any deer though. There were some fresh tracks including some right on top of my own from the day before, and one set right behind my tent http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-rolleyes010.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php) but none with deer still in them.

There was a ton of vehicle traffic from oil & gas this year - last year I passed through that same area and there was nothing. But I did see a fair amount of tracks away from the roads so I don't think that was a factor.

It was good to get out there and try something new anyway. I've never tried camping and hunting in that kind of weather before. It turns out the whole wall tent thing is a lot of work when you're by yourself...

Wish I had some nice hero shots like all the other Peace hunting threads but it's starting to look like I'm really not a very good hunter :) I need more time in the bush.
