Hi,

So I just started hunting, bagged my first doe a few weeks ago. Now I've got the bug, and want to hunt geese and ducks. I'm in the Lower Mainlaind. I was wondering if there are places in Richmond and Delta that are good for waterfowl. Also, will there be anything to hunt in Dec, Jan, Feb? I don't have a boat which is a problem. Do you need waders or just boots in the marshes? Any help would be appreciated.

I myself use waders since we have to cross ditches in the feilds we hunt... a good idea to have for the marshes aswell. For waterfowling in Richmond I'm pretty sure you have to belong to the Vancouver gun club (on Sidaway in Richmond) and then permission from land owners. you might be able to hunt the shores of the Stevston/London area but I'm not to sure on that. As for Ladner public hunting can be done at Bruinswick piont but beware that place atracts a lot of unethical hunters and well just a lot of hunters. Also the dykes along boundary bay can be hunted aswell (water side of the dyke only) same rule applies for Bruinswick too. As for dates check your synopsis... that you should already have and pick up a shooting/hunting map, I know ducks go til jan. 20. I wouldn't worry about not having a boat not a big deal. For some more advise I would go talk to Brian and the boys down at Stillwater sports in the heart of downtown Ladner... good luck... oh yeah you will need a FVSA hunting lic. and migratory bird tag.

I plan to do some hunting tomorrow, what time does one need to be out in the marsh?

If you get there about 11am then you should be able to find a good spot to hunt. Make sure you check the tide times as well, dont get caught on an incomer.

Tide will be highest at 11 am! So I should be there at like 7 am. Shooting bylaw for Delta is at 7:05 am?

Also, for pass/jump shooting, should I be using IC or M choke? I'm using 3'' BB shot

And once at the end of River Road, how far into the marsh do you have to walk before you can start shooting? Will the residents and people walking along there be alarmed if you start taking waterfowl just off the road in the marsh area?

Law is half hour before sunrise for waterfowl, you might be a bit early at 7.05

I think for jump shooting I would be using a Mod choke and maybe drop down form #BB shot to #2 or#3 shot. Good Luck
