Had a great time out with my pups, headed out to the Paliser via the Fenwick lake road. Didn't see much except a little 2 point WT in the middle of the road and a couple of WT does when I crossed the river. Drove all the way up to the 52 k marker and turned around when the snow started to fly jut in case it got too deep.....never know in the mountains at this time of the year. Anyway almost was back to the turn off to Salt Lake Meadows then I passed a cut road heading off to my left, as I took a glance up the hill I noticed the resemblance of a Buck about 150 yds up the road. I slid to a stop and jumped out of the truck, walked about 30 yds back to the road opening and there he was naked as a J-Bird out in the middle of the road.
I estimated the distance and took aim with my trusty Remy VLS 243 and its 95 gr Hornady SST right behind the shoulder, unfortunately I forgot I was sighted in at 200 m and took out his spine. He dropped like a ton of bricks but I did need to make a follow up shot in his neck to put him down quick. All in all a great day, Muley season is over at sundown but what the heck I had my chance at a small 4 point and let him go. Wolf is the next challenge up in the Paliser as well.
Heres a pick.

Thanks for the great comments, I was able to back the truck right up to him but unfortunately he was to heavy for me to lift by myself. I through a rope around his antlers and pulled him down to the main road, then I hooked the rope around a tree that I found above a slope in the hill. I tied the other end to my truck rack and pulled the deer up the hill a little ways, just enough to be able to back the truck up to the hill.....slid the big boy into the back of the truck and off for home I went, of course after I let my pups run amuck for a time or too.
Cheers
