I was hunting reg 3 this weekend and noticed alot of private land signs around where there have never been any in the past, and Im not sure how to check out if it is actually indeed private or if someone is putting signs up on crown. What program do you use? or do i have have to go find maps with the city? thx

You can use the government database.

http://webmaps.gov.bc.ca/imfx/imf.jsp?site=imapbc

You will have to add the layers in that you need. They have all sorts of stuff including tenure type, which is found under tenure or something like that.

If you use google earth, you can add the patch "land ownership status". http://archive.ilmb.gov.bc.ca/dm/wms/

Go to "integrated cadastral fabric" select private (will go yellow) or crown (will go purple).

I use ILRR - the Integrated Land & Resource Registry (the google app draws its info from the same database - the LRDW, the BC Land & Resource Data Warehouse) for work, and I hate to say it but although it is as good as it gets for average Joe, the Integrated Cadastral Fabric is still far from great. To get a true picture you have to go through a painstaking process by doing a title search through the land titles office. Without getting into the nuts and bolts of it, there is no other truly accurate way of knowing.

The moral of the story is that it is a good first cut, but don't get in an argument with some dude whose claiming you're on his land while you're saying you know you aren't!!!!

If you go through the ILRR and turn on the Crown grant and lease layers, you'll get a decent idea of whether a tenure exists for the land in question.

Thanks for that, works great with iMapBC. Only question is, what are the other colours? Like blue? Been playing with them both a bit tonight, the patch for Google Earth is awesome, because iMapBC is BRUTAL to figure out. Appreciate any tips you guys have.

I was given a link to this map with hyperlink tiles.
ftp://ftp.rdek.bc.ca/Maps/rdek_web%20key.pdf
My question, let's say on this map: ftp://ftp.rdek.bc.ca/NewMaps/Web_maps/newgate.pdf can I assume that where a trail crosses private land the private land will likely be posted, effectively blocking access to the public land beyond?
thanks.

I always have at least 6 No "Trespassing-Private Property " and "No Hunting"signs . I like to drive around and post them just before Region 5 and 8 deer seasons close. The hardware store owner that I deal with usually gives me 3 signs for every one I buy. He's a deer hunter too.http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.png
