Well after what was shaping up to be a very frustrating hunting season, success finally! I just moved to Kitimat and with no chance to scout around and get to know the area before the season started and what seems to be a fairly low deer population, the odds were definately stacked against me.
Woke up this morning to quite the snowfall happening and thought about not going out, but with time running out I thought i better get my butt out there.
I parked the truck and headed into an old slash where I had seen a little sign previously. I walked the tree-line to the top where there was a knoll overlooking a nice little bowl and sat down to watch the area. After about a hour or so the snow really started coming down, and I could hardly see and was getting cold, so I continued into the old growth thinking I would cut down zig zagging through it and hook up to the bottom of the slash and then to the road. Once hittting the big timber visibilty got way better and I was suprised just how far I could see. I was just near the bottom following a creek gully when I spotted him covered in snow just about to enter the slash. one shot and it was all over except the work! what I didnt realise was that I was quite a long ways from the bottom road back out. It took a heck of a time getting him to a road, but once there the snow sure helped. Anyways its not the biggest blacktail out there but I'm really happy with him. After leaving my hunting grounds back on the island behind i wasnt sure if I'd even get anything this year...i guess not giving up like I almost did sure pays..:-D thanks for your time CRjoshhttp://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff502/madilljt/080.jpg
