So I went looking for a new shotgun, shouldered a bunch of of different guns just to see. Originally I had a planned on a Mossberg 935, cause my friend has one and has served him well for 4 seasons of duck hunting. The problem started when I asked to see the Winchester sx3. Wow, it felt like an extension of my body. Now I know what gun I am buying next, just have to save some more cash and decide whether to ask for forgiveness or permission from the banker (Wife) lol.

Nice guns, I own a Flanigan (red reciever) and a SX3 Sporting with adjustable comb for clays. My buddy Tom had the gray shadow model.
They work flawlessly.
If you want to try one, send a pm and you can meet me at the Pitt Meadows Gun Club one sunday to see how it works for you. For me, the comb is a little low and I put a pad on top to make the beads stack up better. My buddy Nico used it the last 2 sundays for ducks and crushed the birds with it. A red gun isn't the best choice for a duck gun though, maybe look at the camo model. :)

You very seldom ever regret buying a good gun that you like, even if it costs a bit more than you wanted to pay. In a few years it will seem like a great bargain.

I think I'll explain it to the wife like this... Remember when we got married and you tried on that dress that was out of our price range, but you had to have it cause it was "the one".... Lol

No good can come from that. Just tell her you work hard for your money and are going to spend some on yourself.

The Winchester would be the better choice. I know there are a lot of people who swear by Mossberg's, but there is a reason they're so cheap. Just saying.

I don't care how great that gun may be, you won't shoot well with swollen eyes and a bloody nose!!!!

You might as well remind her about the dishwaser, stove or other cooking and cleaning items that you so nicely got her. If that doesn't work then I don't know what will.

Good luck and don't forget to update your will

Good luck with that one, I remember when I spent some good money on an acrylic duck call and my wife says to me " how many duck calls do you need" I said lets go look in the closet and we'll talk about how many different pairs of shoes and boots are in there for 2 feet. Well that didn't go over so well either.

Point out to the"banker" that if you buy the wrong gun you will just end up not liking it and buy another a year or two down the road by then the price will peobably have gone up and as one never sells guns you will then have 2 hence the cost will be greater in the long run. OR as I read in some other post a while back "she never looks in his gun safe if he never looks in her shoe rack" now that seems like a workable arrangement to me lol.

I told my wife about my new quad about 10 min after I purposed. I wish I had it on video. She was estatic, never seen her so happy, then she went completely 180 deg to extremely mad for about 3 minutes, then back to estatic. Never heard another word about the quad.

PS. I still consider myself lucky that my nuts are still intact after this manouver.

Buy the gun you really want because its something you'll potentially have for the rest of your life. you just have to explain to you wife how cheap the gun is when you amortize it over X number of years haha

Buy the gun. When buying my truck I told my wife I was going to Vancouver, and would be back after dinner. Since I did that fairly regularly for work it didnt cause any raised eyebrows. I did indeed go to Vancouver, changed planes and flew to Seattle to pick up the truck and drive it home. When I got home she asked how the day went and I said great no problem at the boarder!! She shook her head and laughed!

Say what you want about mossberg we used 'em in the Marines (590's) for CQB or breatching.Trusted my life with it never failed me ...ever it was more reliable then my AR or M-249. Yes they are cheap because they are mass produced for LE and military. Although my last few years of service they brought in the Benelli M-4...nice gun aswell however aparently there was a few problems with missfires never experianced that myself. We used our shotguns for differant purposes but we were very hard on those mossbergs and the never failed us...thank god. And your wife...well bud they will never understand so do what you gotta do but the mossberg may save you from sleepin on the couch and they'll down some birds man. I bought the cheaper gun so I could buy some real nice waders down at Cabelas. Just my 2 or 3 cents , hope it all works out for ya

Well it took a little longer than expected but I got the gun! Nice new Winchester sx3 composite with 28" barrel. I didn't go with the 3 1/2" model cause 3s have worked just fine before. Now I just have to wait for geese on the 11th!

Where did you get it from? I am considering the same gun, but want it in a wood stock model. Interested in how it shoots for you.

I've got the twin to yours and have been very happy with it. In the 3 years that I've had it I've never regretted not getting the 3 1/2" one, 3" does everything I want, Congrats and enjoy!! K

I ended up at holesale for the gun, closest to me and only place open at 7:30. They did a price match for me so 1080ish out the door. They also had a nice walnut stock one there. It looked awesom with the grey barrel and receiver, I thought about buying the walnut sx3 but Im too hard on my shotguns to own wood. Got to dig out the clay thrower for the weekend.

The walnut one with the grey barrell is what I want. I have looked at the Browning Maxus and Remington Versamax online but I keep coming back to the SX3. It is looks over fit so far haven't made the mistake of going to the gun shop like you did.
