Large wolf population and maybe to some extent traditional nighttime hunting.

The moose are in the forest.

Seen quit a few bulls during the rut, after the rut they are hiding deep in the timber, you might see the odd one close to the tree line along the cut blocks. After the rut they will stay in one area and may not even move 50 meters. You will have to hunt hard after the rut, not an easy bull to get. Good luck.

Our group got one in the worst wind I have ever hunted in so they are there.

agreed they are there..two groups I know turned down 3 moose for the one and 4 moose for the second before both groups got good bulls..

the above advice is valid....trevstar33..

Had a draw last 2 weeks of Oct. Only saw 3...luckily one was a bull. I know of lots of guys that didn't even see a cow. In one "popular" area only saw one bull hanging out of several camps. There were a lot of long days of not seeing anything...not even a track..guess I was in the wrong area. My trail cam picked up a shot of 2 bulls (one large, the other a 2 point) with a cow on Oct. 18...of course I was hunting a completely different area!! Here I thought the rut was over around that time???

a group of my friends just got back from there. they got 2 leh cows and a 2 point bull. said they saw 4 other bulls that weren't legal.

Unless I missed something in the LEH regs I don't think there is an LEH cow season there...nor is there a 2 pt bull season.

x2 There is no open season on moose.. So unless your friends had an LEH tag, which would enable them to shoot ANY bull, I don't see how there would be legal and non-legal bulls?

that might explain wher they went. I hunt 501 lots.the moose are there but the numbers have been sliding over the past 5 years.

They were just below it in 3-30 at Bonaparte lake. Close enough to 5-1

we had a leh draw for the first 2 weeks of oct and couldn't connect either. places where we were kickin them up last year left right and centre we couldn't even find a cow this year. there was a huge wind storm near the end of sept that lasted nearly a week which resulted in a lot of blow down but i'm not sure if that would drive them out of an area that quick. didn't see any wolves or coyot's this year (LOTS last year) but i'm sure they are still back there. its just how she goes i guess.

Find a high point with a good view of lots of country, sit your ass down, and glass, and you'll see moose. Just came back from 2 weeks in 5-02 and I was seeing moose every day this way. Almost everyone else I saw was just cruising endlessly up and down the many roads in the area. I would routinely be watching 3 or 4 moose in one big 5 year old block, with several trucks driving around in it at once, and none of the moose were visible to the hunters. Most of these guys complained of not seeing any moose and looked a bit skeptical when I'd tell them I'd seen 7 or 8 by 9:00 AM. Mind you' I didn't see a single bull, either....
