Well no major story here. Have been spending some serious time in a few newer areas for me. Have all the cams out working in my regular go to spots but figure i should start expanding the spot options. For the past week i have been drawn back to a particular area due to the amount of doe prescence there. Each time in the area i have been seeing 4-12 does and in relatively short order I figured out where they were bedding and feeding. Each morning i was able to glass them while they headed back to the bedding area and each evening they appeared back to the same gerneral feeding area. For a week though, i only saw two smaller bucks in the area and very little buck sign??? But i figured it was only a matter of time before something larger showed up as i know the area has the potential for bigger bucks. When i arrived this evening, 7 does had already beat me there and this guy was struting his stuff along side them.

Hey guys thanks for the great comments. What a blast, way too much fun and i have another 15 plus days to hunt this November....we'll see if the deer i REALLY want hits the ground. If not i'll have fun trying.

To answer a few of the questions...its a region 2 deer, it won't make book, when possible i hunt slip n stalk and spend a tonne of time behind the binos, the Sitka downpour pants and jacket have been awsome for me so far. I bought it soley to use as rain gear and have not been wet yet, definately recommend them. I'm considering getting it mounted, i really like the double throat patch and despite the fact i don't think it will score very good, the height and width make it look impressive. Thanks again!

Yeah, I think that if you take a deer like that you pretty much have to make a mount. If you aren't, maybe send it to me.........

Okay, I'll say what everybody else is saying.
"Nice buck".
Now please excuse my interior ignorance.
How the hell can everybody tell that the deer in the pics is a blacktail and not just a dinky 3 pt mule deer.
I have no doubt that you all know what you are talking about, but I do not just by seeing the face and rack.
Someone please educate me while bowing down and blowing this lucky son of a gun!!!!
Thanks all!

11-08-2011, 09:13 PM
Awesome Deer! Without giving too much away, where did you get him? Was it inside the "line" de-marking and mulies & blackies? What did it dress out at? It looks huge!

green machine
11-08-2011, 11:15 PM
congrats very nice deer wether it is black tail or mulie. it does resemble more of a mulie then blacktail though. the face is very grey all over and the colouring is more grey then the typical red/brown color of a blacktail. could be some heavy interbreeding if it is close to "the line". how ever i am not trying to take anything from you it is a very nice looking deer.

Hey ufish.....

Where can we order a 'do like yours. I'm thinkin' you're a 0 point at best. Muley or BT, it's somewaht irrelevant.

Cheers Buddy

11-09-2011, 12:21 AM
Nice buck ! but i have to say it looks more like a muley to me.

Mr. Dean
11-09-2011, 12:37 AM
Bottom line it's a Mule Deer, in regards to our Provincial Regulations. Genetics has zippy to do with it.
As for Trophy representation, genetics has zippy to do with that too.

It's ALL a state of mind.

Sweet Jeebus, that is a beauty!

BUCKJR
11-09-2011, 08:41 AM
Hey thanks again for the comments guys. The deer has a tip to tip spread of 17 1/8, and and the greatest spread is 21 1/2. From the base of his antlers to the top of his G2 it was just over 20". Not sure what he weighed but he was a heavy *******. He was shot well within the "line" and definately sported the classic black tail and small white rump that is so consistant with blacktails. Sorry no pics though. I always have a tough time judging the type of animal due to its facial features beacase there is such a variety. The colour and look changes as the deer age from what i know. I've looked back at other pics and i don't really see anything out of the ordinary regards to the ear size and facial colourings compared to other blacktail deer with their winter coats and what i think would be a similar age. But i definately don't claim to be any type of expert on the subject. Any guesses on the age of the deer based on the look? I never feel edjucated enough to place a number to it. I don't think its a real young deer but I also don't think hes a senior. Had all of his teeth.

shotgunjohn
11-09-2011, 08:44 AM
People should be able to take other people at their word but anyway. Have hunted mulies and blacktails for 40 years.
This is typical blacktail. Smaller and darker ears ,double throat patch, brown overall color and I'm pretty sure if you could see his tail it would be brown with a black tip.
Some one on another thread brought up the fact that we can't just be happy for the successful hunter but have to say something to lessen his acheivment.

I would say prime of life maybe four or five.

greenhorn
11-09-2011, 08:53 AM
I'd be happy with that deer regardless of species!

Color can be hard to capture when taking photos in poor light with a flash, so just 'cause the deer appears grey-ish doesn't mean it actually was.

Nice deer!

BuckJr said it was a BT , Why question it . I know where he hunts and it is a BT . Those doubters get over it !!!!
Nice animal BuckJR .
