My wife needed the house to herself today, so I was in charge of keeping the kids busy. I asked them if they wanted to go deer hunting and they both seemed excited so we packed up and headed out. We started getting ready early enough, but by the time we got ourselves organized (snacks, snow-suits, dogs, books etc) it was well after first light. After about an hour of touring some likely oil and gas roads and glassing cut lines the kids were ready for a cocoa break. I was in the process of locating a good spot to let the dogs run when I spotted a rack poking our from a behind some scrub a hundred yards down a right-of-way. Closer examination made it out to be a small buck.

After earlier success with elk this season, the pressure was off and I had committed myself to working hard to take a large buck this November, but the opportunity to get the kids in on another successful hunt was tough to pass up. A quick shot later and we had our buck. The kids were pretty excited.

They quickly reminded me about the cocoa....

That is just awesome, good time with the kids hunting with a deer down. They sure look happy having some cocoa beside a deer. Keep those pictures because one day they will mean a lot to the three of you.

Just like everyone else is saying, way to go man. so cool you take your kids out and show them what good clean fun is all about. I was lucky enough to have a dad that took me out hunting as a kid, now we still go together every year! Keep up the good work! cheers

Awesome pictures dad.....
You're on your way on building a long lasting relationship with your kids....kudos to you.

When my husband makes hot chocolate for his daughters....he's high on their pedestal.
Your kids might get excited about the deer...but they definitley won't forget about the hot chocolate.
