The Hermit

Up early, stopped for coffee at Serious Coffee for breakfast on the way into the treestand which made me a little later than optimum. The many falling leaves sounded like a hundred deer approaching and kept me alert... one landed on my Limbsaver Deadzone 30! (60 lb @ 28")
After about an hour of alternatively watching the feeder and cruising the web on my iPhone, a small fawn came in to feed on the apples! She was hyper and alerted me to the approach of what I thought was going to be her little sister or the nice doe I saw them with yesterday...
Instead, along came a nice little 2x2. I quickly came to full draw and held for as long as I could while he stood there eating apples with his butt pointing directly at me... eventually I had to let down and in doing so they busted me. To make matters worse, my Darkhorse Stud arrow had flipped off the rest in the process of letting down and now the three of us were in a staring contest. Eventually the buck went back to eating and I managed to relax and watch and wait until he turned. As he began to turn I drew and held, waiting for a good quartering away shot. About two minutes later I touched off the release and sent the Darkhorse Stud on its way. Both deer took off like lightening at the sound of the arrow hitting the feeder! All I could see was a white spot on the feeder and I figured that I'd missed and drove the arrow right through the feeder... oopps!
I disconnected my safety harness and climbed down to make my way over to the feeder only to find that I'd chipped the feeder and the arrow had deflected off to the right about five yards. This is what I found!

After waiting about half an hour, a short twenty yard blood trail that looked like some of the Halloween scenes from the night before, led me to my prize!

TrapperDan arrived as I was about to field dress the monster! ;-) After a moment of thanks and a little work with my Fallkniven WM1, we had a short drag back to the truck.

I took the deer over to First Lite's place, Paul lives close by and hung it up besides Dan's real monster that he shot yesterday. A quick clean up, cup of coffee and the morning's adventure was complete.

Off I went to play a round of golf and managed to shoot a, great for me, score of 83. Then to top it all off I got home to find the Government has sent me a check for $900+ for HST rebates! My wife had cooked dinner and had a large glass of scotch ready too! A flippin banner day to be sure!!
Hopefully we can get Franko Manini and First Lite a couple deer this week!
