Last week and to-day, I've been spin casting for coho in the Fraser down stream from Nicomen Slough. To-day is the first day there hasn't been boats anchored in the same area about 100 yards out from the log booms. I don't know for sure what they are fishing for, some were guides, but from their set-up, it's probably sturgeon. I have been on the river a lot over the years, including with my grandfather, who was a gillnetter stationed at Whonnock, so have seen some very large sturgeon, some caught up in nets. Well, to-day I saw one of the largest sturgeon I've ever seen jump right where the boats had been anchored. It came 5-6 feet out of the water and there was a whole lot of fish still left under water. It was very thick. You should have been there, "Leaseman," if you had hooked that one, you would be there, or towed somewhere, for a very long time!

Biggest I've been involved with catching was a little over 8 feet - but I know two guides who've had fish over 11.

I lived in Mission from 77 to 90 and saw one between the shore and Matsqui Island that was in the 10-11 foot range. It was almost clear of the water when I saw it.Was also fishing salmon

Big lew we landed a fish right there last year that 10'5 I will be there on thursday, thanks for the heads up on a monster, the only problem with this time of year is the big guys have typically eaten themselves so full they can eat another piece of food...were you headed to slaughterhouse or just staying in the dewdney?

No, I find the slough too crowded, and slaughterhouse isn't anything like it used to be since most of the round holes have filled in with silt. I know the fishing isn't as good where I go, and I have to be very careful climbing on the jagged boulders, but I get to watch events on the river, see all sorts of animals that most people don't realize frequent the area (a large, heavy blacktail buck with 4 does walked through the blueberry fields early this morning) and I do hook the odd coho, both wild and hatchery, along with trout.

Should have mentioned, "Jetboater," they pulled the log booms out this afternoon. That sturgeon jumped about 150 yards out from between the first 2 pilings downstream from the slough. (couldn't tie him up long enough for your Thursday visit, sorry)....lol

Anybody from HBC out fishing for that big sturgeon to-day? Saw a boat anchored a bit downstream from where I saw that big sturgeon jump a couple of days ago. Noticed they caught a smaller one.....I was the old man rowing in the punt and retrieving lures off stumps.
