Just came back from this area . Hunted hard for 4 days . Saw one mule doe in a farmers field after dark the whole time I was there. Almost no tracks crossing roads or cutblocks. More tracks in the 10 year old trees but nothing to be seen. Back to the Kootneys next year for me where I saw several does every day and everyone in my party connected.

Saw fawns and does by the dozens around Loon Lake two weeks ago.... and one nice buck about 50 ft. from a no hunting sign.
Like you we saw nothing around Bonaparte to 70 mile.

Huge area, all the animals have not just up and left, wrong time of year for the area that you chose I would think, our party counted 21 moose, 5 whitetail, and over 30 muledeer last year for our 3 day hunt. Not everything works out.

Was at Sheridan Lake for a week and saw some cow moose and zero deer. In the Summer there were deer everywhere. I'd like to know where they go. Starting three weeks into the hunting season probably didn't help. It snowed one night and there were very few deer tracks in the morning.

Was up in 5-1 and the Machete area about a week ago very slim pickins, deer have moved out except for a few residents that are of course in no shooting areas. I believe some move more southwest towards 70 mile and clinton others towards the fraser, good luck.

Lots of moose around, took a 2x2 immy out of there last weekend while it was sparring a larger bodied 2x3, pics and story to follow. We have just arrived again today for a 10 day LEH moose hunt, ill get some pics if we see animals. The deer disappear mid october in this neck of the woods for the most part, a couple stragglers around and white tails in fields

Years ago a buddy con me, when the market was low to buy at Green Lake (south side). He had a place up there and in the summer you would see tons of deer. Nov. comes around jump on quad and drove, and drove, and drove and saw zero sign of deer. Wasted alot of gas and time to figure out there was no deer. Ask a local where the deer go for the winter. He told me they go down to back of Loon Lake area

The bulk of deer from Machete country do migrate in late October to either the North Thompson side (Thuya, Darlington, Skull, Opax, etc) or the Loon/Arrowstone country. The moose seem not to be nearly as migratory, as I have found plenty of sheds at lakes I used to hike to on the Bonaparte Plateau that are nearly 1500m asl.

they go down to back of Loon Lake area
I grew up on the South side of Green lake, he was right...
They have been staying later in the last few years, but seemed to start moving earlier this year. When we had my kids up for youth season we saw rediculous numbers on our way to and from Green.

I was up there last weekend for 3 days and didn't see a single deer. Only animal we saw was a coyote. Went to clinton for a couple days after and saw plenty of deer.
