Ruger I did not connect on any of these bulls, unfortunately. I did pass up a raghorn (pic below) early in bow season in this spot but did not really have a lot of time to hunt it as we went to Alberta to hunt muleys and elk. By the time we were back the wallowing period was more or less over. Will try it again next year.

Mine is a Moultrie, couple of years old, one of the less expensive, doesn't do infrared. Kinda looking for a better one myself. This one has slow trigger so easy to miss game if it just walks by. Most pics have been taken at bait (salt block) or wallow, someplace that the game hangs around. I'm kinda hooked on it though, good fun checking out what you've captured.

Taken this Season with my Moultrie D-55
Also have some photos of some more bulls that bedded down around the camera, but cards in the cam out in the bush.

Quick question. How many false pictures or nothing pictures do you guys get for one that actually has game in the pictures?

Rodd

I'd say rarely do I get a picture with nothing in it, unless a bird flys by etc.... I set mine up once facing towards the railroad, not realizing it at the time, got a picture of every Train Engine that went by for a week... and the trains were almost 100yds away... but they give out LOTS of heat and motion, so they took lots of pictures. Some of my pictures took a serious review before determining that they're was in fact something there... Other cameras I've seen take pictures of the grass if its moving..... I really don't like that, I like it when heat and movement is required to trigger the camera.....

I attatched it to a tree that was wayy to flimsy, every time the wind picked up it shook the tree and my camera took a picture, had hundreds of pics of nothing.
When its facing the sun certain times of the day the heat of the sun will activate pictures, as well if there are any branches or second growth trees in the 50' radious, I usually get about a quarter of my pics with no animals.

These are mostly Reconyx RC55 pics, just cropped as most are wide angle (1080p), and would be too large on this page.

I generally face the cam east (northeast) as it is better to get morning sun when it is cooler (less false triggers), than into the evening sun when it is warmer and the veg sways in the wind. I also try to strip a lot of large leaves off the stem and rip out the big tufts of grass. But still, a warm windy day will trigger the cam, could turn down sensitivity but may miss smaller animals. I just try to put in areas with not so much tall swaying vegetation.

All you have to do is view a few thousand images of swaying branches, grass, etc., to figure out what works and what doesn't! ha ha!

My camera is a homemade job w/ a sony cmera.

I do not get many false picts, but my settings are set up to avoid that and I try to set it up facing north or south so the sun is high and I will remove any brush/grass or crap that my sway in the wind.

Nice picts folks!!!

Great pic's guys, Having no experience with a trail cam i was wondering if they make much for noise when they are triggered and take a pic.Would a person walking by be able to hear it before they knew it was there? Thanx

I have a buchnell trophy cam (approx $200 on ebay) and it makes no noise at all when it takes a pic. Pretty sure all the new ones are silent. The flash is also barely noticeable. it's infared so it's just a faint tiny red light. they are a blast. get one or 10 haha

no luck on the big whitey, haven't seen him in a month, so he has either moved on or someone else got him. I'm super lucky in respect to the location (it's my back yard!)
the little guy in the pic with the raven is a frequent visitor, had him walk by me the other night at about 10yards, was pretty cool, figured he would bust me for sure since I was just standing beside a poplar tree.

Quick question. How many false pictures or nothing pictures do you guys get for one that actually has game in the pictures?

It depends on the setting that I have on the camera....If I set it to take a 3 shot progression, at 1 minute intervals, I do get some shots of bums, noses or nothing....

Since I use large 4gb memory cards I do not worry about it...If I used a smaller card, I would drop it to a 2 shot burst, or maybe even a single...
