After many hours of research and hundreds of questions asked the purchase of my first wall tent looms over my head with only one uncertainty remaining....floor or no floor??? pros and cons or any advice you have is much appreciated. ps its going to be 20x14 with a porch

I used to sleep in my buddies Cabin tent, (with floor) sure was nice to be able to remove the boots at the end of a long day. Just a few weeks past I got to use a wall tent that the owner used a tarp for a floor, worked OK but not the same as a canvas floor. The upside with a tarp floor, it's cheap to replace once worn out, the canvas floor not so.

if you know someone at a pulp mill you can get mill felting, it works great and folds up nice , i find it better then a tarp.. good luck on what ever you find,,

100% floor!! I spent the extra cash and got a heavy poly vinyl floor. There is cutout for the stove and it snaps into the sod cloth. Keeps the floor from getting dusty or muddy.

Try some cheap outdoor carpet or that fake grass stuff.

anything is better than nothing, its nice for the first guy who has to get up and relight the stove or lantern to be able to walk bare foot on a semi clean floor without sticks poking in your feet.

I would vote for no floor!!!
We just pack small scrapes of plywood, and or carpet and or cardboard.....just for the area beside your bed (for boots on /off time)
Then we burn the scrap stuff while packing up!

We use a tarp for the cot area only. Thats easy to keep semi clean with a broom. The rest of it is the ground.

We have a piece of mill felting that we have used in our hunt camp in years gone by........indestructable stuff!

No floor and a pair of crocks. No wet muddy tarps to clean up and store no soggy carpets to get forgotten in the bush. the wood stove will dry the ground out and you will have a nice grass carpet.
If you are forced to cook inside your tent you dont need to worry about spills or grease spatter landing on the floor. I can only imagine the amount of dirt I would track in if the tent had a floor.

We just pulled ours down this week and we agreed in camp that no big heavy flooring is better than the simple blue trap by each cot. Less to clean up and you just don't have to worry about wandering about with muddy boots while in the tent.

Dryer felt is good but it can be heavy, water goes right through it , good when getting a shower. a light mat works well beside your bunk, but for longer trips the dryer felt is the way to go, hard to get the old style mostly synthetics now .

We use tarp for the floor with green outdoor carpet for the middle section. Spruce branch welcome mat keeps alot of dirt/mud out.

We use the canvas tarps from Princess Auto - floor just adds comfort to the whole set up for me. Put a square piece of plywood down under the stove.

I use a tarp then put green outdoor RV carpet over top. Covers most of the floor except around the stove. When the carpet gets dirty after a few days, just take it outside and shake it off and throw it back in. On the 3rd year of use and looks like it will hold up for several more.

Works well and was cheap.

Try some cheap outdoor carpet or that fake grass stuff.

Astroturf, thats what we use. We still wear shoes but it seems to keep things more comfortable, can kick them off if we feel like it and the floor's still dry.

On the note of the mill felt, where can that stuff be bought? LR

After 15 years of using tarps ,carpet and just about anything else I could find I finally picked up heavy duty vinyl tarp for the floor. Put a cheep tarp under it and was totally dry inside the tent for the first time. Had to spend ten minutes at home to clean it up, well worth it.

I will be doing my first wall tent experience this Nov, and I am taking up some plywood! I will burn it when I am done!! It will only be for where the cots are anyways! Moosin

I have 2 wall tents without floors and 3 with floors, and I much prefer the floorless version as I don't bring home a pile of sand and sticks in them. I like to use a canvas tarp for a floor.

I put a trap down first (on top of the sod cloth) then Mill Felt or the old heavy style waxed canvas on top. That way the softer floor stays dry and lasts longer. Highly recommend NOT having a sewn in floor. Hope you will consider VantagePoint Outfitters for your tent purchase! www.vantagepoint-outfitters.com PM for quote.

When bison hunting 2 years ago -25 we put down a tarp then old carpet foam under lay & then indoor/outdoor carpet, we could walk around bare feet & toasty warm. A little bulky but very comfy.

Floor for sure, you need to be able to walk around in slippers in your t-shirt while in the tent. We use the Cabelas models my buddy has the Alaknak and I have the Big Horn 2:

When I bought mine it washttp://images.cabelas.com/is/image/cabelas/s7_518440_999_alt01_01?rgn=0,0,2000,1310&scl=5.954545454545454&fmt=jpeg&id=0ppuMqKs1jHGNaPJSJHlrF $650 including tent, poles and stove- we have since upgraded to a better stove, but it has been 8 years and it is still going strong. You can not beat the Cabelas brand products.

no floor. set it up and light the stove, and the gound will be dry in a couple hrs. Then throw down an rv mat. get em at any rv store in any size you want. they sweep off easy and are waterproof.

Nobody has mentioned a bale of dry hay (straw) or a bag of shavings. Or is that old school?

A floor in a wall tent makes about as much sense as piling a foot of dirt on your hardwood dining room floor..............I don't get it.

I have a real heavy poly or vinyl type floor, rolls up small and has a zip out section where the stove sits. Whateve it is its heavy duty, has never punctured.
In a heavy rain storm or real dry time you want a floor for the water to run under or keep the dust down. My floor came from davis tent and awning, they may have what material it is listed (it's dark blue)

No floor, just a little prayer rug of a carpet to take your boots on on and off. Carpet samples work good. The stove should easily dry out the ground in a few hours. Less material to pack around and clean up.
