Well hunting has been tough up here not knowing where to start. Most of deer I have seen are on farmers fields behind the NH Signs. I have walked quite a bit and saw some great country but have seen very little deer sign, lots of moose sign. I inquired at Trout fitters and got no help at all the CS at this store
is not that great "just my opinion". I did see a 2 point moose but he saw me too and left pretty quick. Will be going out again this weekend not sure where to head as I have been N, S, E and W, but you never know.

South - Blackwater (off Tako) or Hixon (Whites Landin) towards Fraser will put you into them nicely....including big deer.

East - Starting at Dome Creek through to Robson Valley in pockets

West - South and north of Ft Fraser and to Francois Lake area (hunt the crown adjacent to the mine)

North - Peace River

That should get you started.

ya not much for customer service locally i find as well.. the deer population is definately down- ive seen all dinker bucks lately, no shooters.. bc rams pointed out the majority of the areas which hold decent deer populations- dont forget to check the thicker brush/aspen areas for whitetails...
good luck!!

I've seen and taken alot of big deer in whites landing. Reg 7-8. Get down on any of the draws and hills along the Fraser river I'm sure you'll find some good Sign. I took a non-typicable out of there that scored 224 with an out side spread of 38"s. Across the river in 7-10 also has some nice deer.
Good luck

Wow, you went to the store to ask where the deer are? I usually just go there to buy stuff. There is a herd of deer in pg up by the shell station near the airport turnoff today, you should stop at the Shell and ask them for some advice too.

Most of the time sporting goods stores try to help people by sending them in the right general direction. The idea is that they'll have a postive experience and become a customer (preferably a regular customer). Some of the people at troutfitters seem to have missed that, or they just don't care. I'd rather drive to Vanderhoof and buy from the parent store than make major purchases from troutfitters. And the guy is new to town, so pointing him in the right direction wouldn't hurt. No need to be a dick.

Just my .02

I am a dick, thanks tips. Can't you see that I am trying to help, I told him where the deer were. Now go back to Vanderhoof and spend your money because nobody at Northern Troutfitters wants to be your friend.

I don't think Duane knows how to use a computer LOL

your best chance for deer will be on private land. Start knocking on doors and maybe you'll get lucky. Happy hunting

While on the Pelican I did notice some serious wolf tracks...I am not an expert but I would say that either the deer are out of the area or getting pushed around by the wolves. Feel free to correct me :)

Was down the 1400 Road and crossed over to the A road...not a single deer or moose track in the fresh snow anywhere...a few wolf tracks here and there but nothing too serious.

The 1400 Road had about 100 road hunters...any mule deer that shows its face doesn't stand a chance. I imagine the Tako was the same today. With does being open the last couple of years, it wouldn't suprise me that the deer have moved out or have been heavily harvested with that amount of pressure...it's was almost as bad as calf season! Was suprised by the lack of moose sign as well.

Barton Lake would be a good area to set up for wolves and coyotes, this area was thick with tracks, mostly coyote.

Bones35 you have just sent half of PG to White's landing for tommorrow ;)

Was down there today...everybody is already there!!

Lots of road hunters on the main roads (seriously every few hundred meters at times), quads and all, all cruising the same areas over and over. One major problem with the antlerless season and the buck closure in Region 5 right now is you get a lot of Quesnel people coming north to this area. I saw a few deer but they were deep in the timber.

So go hunt around the Nechako River edges, or the mud river, or the salmon river, or even the Fraser river. Thats where I am going to go if I get time before my bison hunt. Catch a game trail and follow it with your mendeils, or Kennetreks, instead of the BFG's ot Toyos!! Moosin
