The day started out just driving around looking for new spots with no intention of really doing much hunting. Around 5:00-5:30 I was driving home on the hwy and decided I might as well pull off and find a spot while the sun went down. So took a drive down a road I've never been down, but heard about from this site.
Found a nice clearing so parked the truck and started looking around. ended up walking 1/2 a mile or so away from the truck and into a large slash and found this guy. I saw some movement and then he sky lined his head @ about 80-100 yards away. shouldered the rifle, but couldn't get the scope cover flipped up I was shaking so bad. Took aim and a couple deep breaths and took the shot, hit him a little far back followed up with a good double lung shot and he was down. He didn't go more than 30 yards from the first shot. Holly crap was getting him out a pain in the ass luckily there was an old skidder trail through the slash that I could ( with alot of work) get the truck in there.
It was just luck that I found him, but i'll take it. Having this guy for a first is going to be hard to beat:mrgreen:

Sorry no field picks

Came back to ask if you were getting him done - Good to hear that you are!

Shoulder mounts (like anything else) typically run all over the place as far as pricing goes. What you should be worried about, is whether or not you're going to like the final product that'll hang on your wall, for as long as you'll be walking on this planet. Taxidermy takes a lot of care and attention to replicate, is truly 'art', and not as simple as gluing a hide to a piece of foam filler.

Look around and ask if you can drop in and see some finished works that are waiting for customer pick-up (not 'general' displays that are used for promo only). Ask for 5 or so references and follow up on them. Take your time in selecting a shop.

Give Ray a call (778 241 0208 ) - I was there on the weekend and he's got some stunning shit in there right now waiting to go to their respective homes. FWIW, this is all he does; it's a full time gig.....

If you want to see more of his stuff, I've got several pieces of my own that I'd be willing for you to view.

HBC also has a head mount being auctioned off on the site - you might wanna take a shot at that too.

Good luck.

nice buck, great rack, but why not call it a 49...7x7=49, makes as much sense as calling it a 14 point. just messin with you anyway, Im actually quite jealous.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with that choice.

Don't know if he pointed it out, but as of last night, my Muley (in my sigline) is back in there for upgrades. He's got a new deer made up that's insetted into some habitat scenery. When I saw it, I had to get mine done also.

Got any ideas as to how yours will be posed?

semi-sneak? looking slightly left. I saw the one on the wall that your talking about. mine will be mounted in the same position without the extras. looked very nice. hell everything in there looked really nice.

Kewl

I'll be making a trip over there, one day soon. When I do, I'll make it a point of giving your critter a look over - I have a feeling it will be even more impressive than what the pic's make it out to be.

Now that you're in the world of Taxidermy, be careful........... It can be addicting.

You'll need a bigger house.
You'll need LOTTSA disposable income.
