kelowna new hunter needing some suggestions

I'm going to be going out for mulies and white tail and was wondering what suggestions anyone might have for tactics this time of year: scent, calling, rattles. I was also wondering if they are going to be at different altitudes and should I be going out for one or the other each trip? I've gone out scouting a few times but have only seen a few signs and am not sure what areas around town are good. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
