Hi,

I am heading out for my first attempt at Elk hunting. I have a cow elk tag and was hoping some experienced hunters could give me some advice on strategies.

I have scouted an area I am confident hold Elk but was wondering if there are any calls or techniques to draw or locate cow elk. The area has semi thick brush and there isn't a great spot to glass the area from.

Is there any type of Elk call I can do that will get a response from cows?

Any advice or tips appreciated.

Thanks!

Andrew

Slowly walk the mature aspen groves about 300 to 400 yards in from feeding or watering areas ( cut blocks or river banks ). Move slowly and watch the ground they may be laying during the day. Use a cow chirp everytime you think your being noisy they will hear you coming but think your an elk. If you smell them you are close or you are in a area they have been recently move really slow they could be close. The smell is alot like a stale barn smell. A GPS is a good idea to help you find your game when you return to haul it out. When your in this timber everything looks the same.
Hope this helps and good luck
Mike
