While the moose hunting has been dismal in the unit my son and daughter have their LEH's, they did manage to get a double header yesterday on their second bears of the year.

Congrats to the kids on their bruins! Doesn't seem to be much colour variation in the bears where you are.

I had friends just come back from your neck of the woods and they said the moose hunting was pathetic, but will try again later this month. They did see lots of wolf sign though.

Dana, you and your wife did a fine great job on raising your kids.
Great job on them getting the bears. And your daughter getting some grouse.

Congrats to your Son and Daughter! There both following there Dad's Foot Steps to a Tee! By the excellent photo's, as usual, it looks like you guys were hunting up quite high. I'm by far anyone to voice a opinion on where or how to hunt Moose, but you may find more Bulls down a bit lower. We took one last Friday night after a bit of Calling, then called in two more Huge Bulls the next night, just to see what was there. Seems there sticking close to the lower lakes, and only coming out early morning, or late at night. And, again, Congrats to your Son and Daughter on there Bears!

M. Dean,
A lot of those pics are taken from the valley bottoms. ;) Just steep V-shaped valleys is all.

JDR,
I think the moose numbers have really taken a dive in the unit we were hunting. I can remember several falls where I'd see 15-20 different bulls in the unit in Oct and countless cows and calves. Last time I had the draw was in 09 and I saw only one bull after hunting every weekend of Oct. The moose really seemed to be quiet and hugging the heavy timber that year. I thought it was just a tuff year. This year the kids drew it as did my mom and dad. Not one moose spotted thus far. Had a few tracks from them moving at night but not a peep out of them during the day. I think the Ministry has acheived their goal. They were wanting the moose numbers dropped in an effort to save the mountain caribou.

Hey Dana, after the rut the moose head up to higher elevations, last year in Mid November I found some hanging out on east facing slopes at about 6000 ft.

Good luck on the moose

Yea I've found moose paddles just below the timberline while hunting goats. Right now, nothing moving down low or up high, that is other than bears and wolves. :)
