Shot a huge blue grouse north of the Gang in the 70’s. Only needed one shot with the 300 win.(a head shot).
Gave it to Doug Field my hunting partner. He said that it weighted over 5 lbs. dressed & that it served as a main meal for the whole family.
NO BS (shot many since & all were ½ size or less)

Yes sir. We used to hunt Blues over the dogs at Churn Cr. never weighed any but got some HUGE ones out of that country. Cactus is hell on the dogs though even with boots.

Still a damned fine bird. You'll get a good feed out of it. What area were you hunting?

Used to see them along the edge of the alfalfa field at our old place in Rock Creek. I really miss the Boundary country sometimes. :-/

Apparently the good old 270 will do for may African species as well as all NA critters EXCEPT a big Blue and that could be trouble cuz they have been known to attack.LMFatAO

Isnt it funny though when the do pick them up by the breast and the birds wings are beatin the crap out'a the dog's face.

For sure a young dog can be ruined pretty quick by getting wing beat by a grouse or spured by a ringneck rooster.
