cow call, but be patient, a spike will not come in fast like a bull will ( afraid of being shit kicked) but he wiil come in quitely out of curiosity to have a look a marshey area with lots of willow ect (browse), and make sure you look at every black stump twice!!

What does your outdated hunting book say. You know the one that you quote everytime somebody asks for some spot information.

Jel......this is just my experience having had a few spikers come in while looking for his dad or BIG brother.

I have had them come into cow calls in the past. Every once in a while if you are on your own.....try and change the pitch or tone of your cow call. This sometimes will draw em' out thinking there may be more than one lonely lady.

Good luck.

Don't forget moose nose makes GREAT "jellyvis".

Immature Moose in Region 3 tips......?
Best buy a 6-49 too if you get one of those fellas ! LOL !

I agree some "low" cow calls might be the ticket...but then I've only seen 2 Immatures in Reg 3, 1 out of season and one during open season without a Tag in my Pocket:mad: :|

If you are thinking I am from up north, I could only wish. I actually live about 8 blocks from you:smile:

By the way what does your book say about calling moose.

I actually got a spike moose in 2004, it was my first animal nonetheless. mainly I was road hunting and it was just a numbers game as well I heard I was pretty lucky to even see one.
13% of the moose population is spike fork.
I shot it about 2 days after I was road hunting w/ my buddie and he filled his leh tag with a mature bull .
so in general road hunting has worked for me when hunting moose.
cover lots of area, glass those slashes for stump moose, and cow call at the nice looking swamps.
but remember to cover as much area as possible when hunting moose.
also we spotted most moose between 10am and dusk.

Jelvis, I've shot a fair number of the illusive immature. My advice would be find the cows early and try to find where they tend to hang out over time. You will generally find the young bulls sniffing around before the big boys get into the rut. Some of these little guys will still be last years calves still hanging out with mom IMHO. Sit watch the cows around the sloughs or cuts and stay nearby. I myself don't often try to call these guys but when I do, I start out softly, generally with a cow already close by. I never get too aggressive but will thash the odd willow with a stick to try to peak his curiousity. Good Luck!

Jelvis,
The secret to hunting those elusive immys is to find them pre-season and then hope to hell you are the first one in on the opening day. But, I've yet to have that secret pan out for me. Of all the immys I've tied up in the summer, I've never found them again once the season began. My luck has been just that, luck. You've got to put in a ton of time and sometimes everything just comes together. I've seen 3 thus far this year. Hoping I can find one of those 3 or maybe some different ones before Oct 30 comes to a close. ;)

If the weather is still warm, find the black spruce around water holes, make sure you're not reaking of smoke / booze when you walk around and call (cow call and bull call away from each other) and just be patient, sometimes the liitle guys come in but hang out on the side lines so don't stay still too long, they'll pick you out a mile away. Good luck.
Straight shootin!
