Elk hunting question?..

Is there a second elk rut in october or is this BS, or do the bulls just bugle year round. Was out today trying call a bull in, saw one across the river with about 6 cows, as soon as l bugled they all took off. Same scenerio two weeks ago and a 4 point bull swam across the river towards me. I hear this story over and over about a second rut in october, anyone experiance this so called rut.

bulls will seek out cows as long as cows will come into estrus, that can be from late August until late October, not all the cows come into estrus in same week!, I have witnessed big bulls going crazy, battling for a cow in estrus during early November,

and yes, herd bulls with a harem OFTEN head in the OTHER direction at sound of a bugle, after all, they are looking for love, not a rumble!
