I was born and raised in Alberta, so I grew up hunting there. We have a trapline 1.5 hours south of fort mac where I do a annual moose trip with a few uncles and cousins. We built a cabin back in 97 and have been doing the trip ever since. I got back from this yrs trip, we took one bull and 3 wolves. The weather wasnt really cooperating for calling, so I pounded cutlines and trails, it paid off as I took a 3.5 yr old 40" bull. It a pain in the ass now to go hunt there needing a hunter host and paying a arm and a leg for my tags, but its all worth it. since we got the line in 96, weve taken out 26 moose. it works out we have 2-3 draws per season amongst our group

thanks guys. Ya that 50 was a big boy for sure. that rack looks small on his body. this yrs bull was decent, dropped a front quarter off at the butcher and it weighed in at 152 lbs with no neck and only 3 ribs

I love that, you sure know your moose hunting. I hunted deer and moose south of Conklin few years back it was good where I was then. With the wolf population in that area how's thing lately? Last year I was there wolves were a big problem all of November.

there is an abundance of wolves no doubt right now. Problem is they dont show themselves often. I came across a sand lease and the wolf tracks were mind boggling. I sat for a while overlooking to see if any would come out but none did. here is a pic the lease was probably 300x300 so i only took a pic of one spot, but the whole thing was covered, its like they had a pow wow

Glad you had a great hunt, thanks for sharing it with us.

Your licence cost complaint needs to be clarified. I'm glad you have the ability to hunt in Alberta, and can participate in accessing Draw (LEH) tags as a NRCanadian. I hope it stays this way.

But lets take a look in the proverbial AB/BC mirror.

An Albertan cannot even apply for BC LEH tags.

Licence cost for a BC resident to hunt moose in Alberta on a Draw tag.

Draw application- as low as 91 cents (4 applicants per draw application)
Wildlife Certificate - 28.22
Hunter host fee - 27.00
Moose Licence - 135.31

Totals out to under $200 with GST for a BC resident to hunt Draw (LEH) moose in Alberta

Looking at the reflection....
Licence Cost for AB resident to hunt moose in BC, ( general seasons only)

NRC Hunting Licence- 75.00
Accompany permit - 55.00
NRC Moose licence - 250.00

And if you get a bull, add in the royalty fee of 125.00

A Moose in BC for a NRC on a accompany licence will cost 505.00 before taxes. I don't even want to guess what provincial taxes are now.

Hope that makes you feel better about our AB hunting fees for NRCanadians....

oh yea, i dont mind paying, and having the chance to apply is great, the part that bugs me is thats where i was born and raised, and still own property, yet to hunt on it i need a hunter host now, and all the rules that go along with it. thats the only part that bugs me!!
