Was hunting last weekend and stumbled across a few mushrooms that I think may be Chantrelles but I'm not sure. Just wondering if anyone here could tell me so I know what to look for in the future. I think they might be because one that I found looked like someone had picked it and threw it back on the ground, the ones we found were old and some had worms in them. The ones that I found were huge and looking at pictures online it seems that Chantrelles are a lot smaller.
Thanks

(I think the pictures should show up now...)

i can't get the pictures , but chantrelles won't have worms and if someone tossed them , they probably aren't chantrelles either. there is a false chantrelle that looks similar to the good ones, the false will make you puke your guts out

Whatever you did when you posted a pic has made a small screen pop up that is asking for password authentication - never happened on this site in all the time I've been around. Looks suspicious as hell.

You will see white chantrelles from time to time, but these are not them. The gills are too deep, thin, and uniform. Your mushrooms have a clear point where the stalk and gills meet. Follow the link above and you'll see the gills on Chantrelles travel down the stalk a bit.

Man, I never knew what chantrelles looked like. I'm pretty shure I've come across a gold mine on my last 3 years hunts. I just have to drive 2.5 hours to get to it.

No, And dont take this the wrong way but if you are asking if thoes are chantrelles go with someone who has picked them and have them show you.
Thoes are so far off what a chantrelle looks like it just makes me think that.

There is plenty of info out there to help you identify them, and when you are positive you got it pick some and take them to a buyer and ask him if you were right. Once you get good at it you can spot them a mile away, as well as the 2 that people mix them up with.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah 835 you are right, those are way off. After looking at pictures online they are definitely a different colour and for the most part smaller and I can see now how the gills run into the stem on a Chantrelle. Thanks again.
