last weekend sitting in an old cutblock , i heard a load whistle , Thinking a fellow hunter was trying to get my attention. i looked for a good 5 minutes and saw nothing. still hearing the whistle over and over agian , i whistled back . the whistle was coming closer. It was coming from the long grass below me. At first we thought it was a white tail fawn. Then a cougar jumped up on a large rock about 40 yards away and whistled at us. Then jumped down and disapeared in the long gras still whistling as it went.

Cougars always do that when they are feeling a little "randy". You'd have been done for if you were sitting in a 1982 Trans Am.

I understand cats whistle in order to communicate with their young. Perhaps it was a female calling to the young that she had stashed somewhere in the area. Cool to have experienced that, AND to have seen the whistler!
